A question about : Family day in London for son's 21st/Shard info

Looking for places to go for a special meal for son's 21st at end of March. Can easily get train into London so originally thought maybe about lunch at the Shard, having looked at the menu's and prices this may not be the best idea. Was wondering what people who had been to Shard thought, is it worth eating there or better to buy a view ticket and eat close by. Other son of 17 will be with us so not sure if he is allowed in bars at Shard as perhaps another option would be to have drinks there then go elsewhere, do you still have to pay for view tickets if you do this?

Failing above option does anyone have any ideas of places to go that are a bit special for a celebration meal and things to do that would appeal to 17/21 year old lads as well.

Best answers:

  • When we were celebrating a special birthday we went for a lovely dinner cruise on the Thames. It was fantastic, seeing London on the river lit up with lights and we went from Embankment to past Greenwich and back. The company was Bateaux London I believe and their boats are almost completely glass which gives a great view.
  • I've done the Shard and the view along with the hi tech telescopes is very good. The lifts are also pretty impressive
Sushi Samba also has a great view https://sushisamba.com/ Sushi Samba has a very very good reputation
You also now have the Walkie Talkie building https://skygardentickets.com/skygardenpublic_ui/events/
You may find your sons would like the graffiti tour https://www.shoreditchstreetarttours.co.uk/tag/graffiti/ (There are other companies doing these tours)
If you're going to the Shard, the famous Borough Market is just over the road. Or you have Gordon Ramsey's Union Street Cafe (It's a restaurant) just down the road
  • Great ideas so far, please keep them coming.
