A question about : Extended Delay due to Rerouting

My flight from MAN-LHR was delayed due to weather. I was refused boarding on the connecting flight to Calgary due to late arrival in LHR.

I was offered an alternate route, this was a night stop in a hotel in LHR. Travelling next day from LHR to Denver. Another night stop in Denver then Denver to Calgary. Finally arriving approx. 40+ hours late.

Prior to leaving LHR to Denver, but too late to change flights I found out there were seats available on a BA flight LHR-Frankfurt-Calagry. Which would have arrived the same calendar day, approx. 20 hours later than originally planned.

Am I entitled to compensation due to the fact that the BA staff did not put me on the first available route, even though I continually reminded them I was due in Calgary to work. They kept asking me for how I wanted to get to Calgary? I pointed out I was not aware of the BA routes and options available. Nor were any maps available showing the options. Therefore I had to go with the BA staff advice.

Advice welcome.

Best answers:

  • no compensation as the delay was caused by weather
BA do not fly FRA to Calgary this is an Air Canada flight. (the BA flight from FRA operates via LHR) It would have been better for BA to keep you on a BA flight rather than pay Air Canada for a ticket for you. Do you know if the alternative flights even had seats for sale?
You accepted a reroute on the flights offered. Have you spoken to your travel insurance?
  • How long was the delay at MAN?
  • Hi Caz 3121,
correct it wasn't a BA flight but I was informed by BA I could have had that route but it was now too late to change. Yes available seats.
I agree it was better for BA to keep me on a BA flight but not better for me. Work is work!
  • Hi Richard,
I left MAN about 2.5 hours late and arrived at LHR after they had closed the gate.
