A question about : Etched marks on vinyls

Going to sell some vinyl LPs on Ebay and noticed some have etched writing on them such as Meyls,Rays etc .Just wondering what they mean and are they more valuable. Any clues would be appreciated. Thank you.

Best answers:

  • They're runout messages. https://breakfastwiththesmiths.indie1...oove-messages/
  • That bit in the link referring to "A Porky Prime Cut" is nowt to do with mozza - Porky (George Peckham) is a record cutting engineer. He also cut many depeche mode vinyls and added messages to them.
  • Run out groove stuff is quite common , especialy the Porky Peckam stuff
A few albums in the 80s were actually etched all over with Styx Paradise Theatre being the one I remember.
  • And while you're at it check the matrix numbers in the runoff grooves for first pressings which are often worth more for collectable records.
  • probably a little late to the party but google 'discogs' to find out the value of your record / sell it online.
  • Thanks for your replies have found the name BLAIR etched on a Beatles 45 vinyl Yesterday. This is on a silver Parlophone Label are these rare .
