A question about : ESA Severe Disability Premium question
Hi there,
I am on higher rate care DLA and currently live at home with my mum who receives carers allowance for me. This means that although I get the add on 'enhanced disability' amount I don't get the severe disability one.
However I am soon to be moving out into my own flat and so my mum will no longer be my carer. I therefore will become eligible for the severe disability premium as far as I am aware. My question is, how do I go about claiming this exactly? Does it mean I need to fill out all of the ESA forms again? Because if so I really don't know if I can deal with it (well I will have to somehow, but ugh, hate those forms ). Or can I just claim it separately or just let the benefits office know of this change in circumstance for them to amend my award? Anyone else been in this situation and can advise? Thank you. I really am going to need this extra amount to help me will bills etc
Best answers:
- first of all, your mum will need to stop her carers allowance claim.
when she has done this, phone ESA and tell them that you are now entitled to the severe disability premium and they will send you a short form for you to fill in.
it won't affect any other current benefit claims
if your mum currently gives you in excess of 35 hours a week care ... how are you going to manage without this care?
