A question about : ESA ran out in November but still no call for reassessment, good or bad situation?

I worry that I will get a out of the blue letter demanding I come in, I have spoken to a neighbour on ESA who said their reassessment was about a year after it was meant to be, and they got a letter about 3 months before it mentioning.

Part of the reason I also worry is I am on work related and I want support, I was meant to get regular appointments with jobcentre to get me back to work but in my entire claim had 2 x 5 minute appointments mentioning theres nothing they can do due to cutbacks and that was over a year ago and I moved since then.

I want to get back to work, I also would appreciate the help with travel they have in form of a card that gives half price rail travel.

Best answers:

  • What support would you like? There isn't a great deal the JCP can do that you can't do yourself.
  • its not always about what a person wants its more like what they are entitled too. the benefits system does not work that way im afraid.
  • do you mean a travel card issued by your local authority.... if so, then you need to look at your councils rules regarding this sheme.
if you mean a railcard for national trael, then you seem to be talking about the disabled persons railcard.
its 1/3 off not half price and it costs Ј20 a year.
you have to be in receipt of certain disability benefits to get it
  • Couldnt sleep so on early, no theres a jobcentre card that gives half price travel here is snippet of information
This is provided to those unemployed claiming Jobseekers Allowance or Universal Credit for 3-9 months (18-24 year olds) or 3-12 months (over 25s). Other benefit recipients may receive a Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card from 3 months of their claim and if they are actively engaged with a Jobcentre Plus adviser. Cardholders are entitled to a 50% discount on selected rail tickets.
And I am entitled to regular help at the jobcentre, I had it in writing I am meant to get regular advisor interviews(thats why its work related esa) but on the only appointments I had I was told theres so many cutbacks they cant even give me what they told me I am entitled to.
I do have a bus pass but if I want to go to the city its 40 minutes by train but Ј9 return or by bus it takes over 2 hours because I have to change plus a lot of traffic it expands my chances of getting work since I have more areas I can go to within a reasonable time, theres another place I can go for seasonal work but its 2 hours by bus again due to changes and a hour by train
  • ATOS are in meltdown and the new provider, Maximus, is not expected to take over until March.
In many areas re-assessments have been postponed and there will then be a back log for Maximus to work through.
If you phone the number on your letters, and ask for a callback from the JCP who administers your claim (you initially get through to a call centre who can help with some info but not what you need), they can tell you the current review date on file for your claim.
This date may nor may not change again so if you don't get an ESA50 a few weeks after the date you are given, call again.
  • I would get confirmation of the current review date, only because an ESA50 lost in the post can lead to benefits being stopped.
  • Virtually all routine reassessments were stopped many months ago because ATOS couldn't even cope with new referrals. The company which has taken over are suggesting it's likely to be at least 18 months from the time they take over to clear the backlog. Don't worry about it as long as you continue to get the money.
