A question about : Electoral Role

I recently discovered that Equifax is recording that I am not on the Electoral Register in Scotland. I since have found out that this probably affects every member of the Scottish public. Here is Equifax's reply.

Thank you for further response.

There is currently a display issue which our technical team are aware of that states you are not on the Electoral Roll at your current address. Your 2014 Electoral Roll is still considered as up to date as it is not only yourself that is affected by this it is the Scottish public. We are unable to update your Electoral Roll information until 2nd March 2015 when we receive your updated Electoral Roll information from your local council.

If you would like to add a note (known as a notice of correction) to your credit report to explain this to potential lenders that you have registered with your local council for the electoral roll please let us know.

Here’s an example of a notice of correction for this situation:

‘I, , have registered with my local council for the electoral register at my current address. However, this will not appear on my credit report until early March when Equifax receives the 2015 register details from the local Scottish councils. Please take this into account when searching my credit report.’

I'm sorry this isn't the answer you wanted but hope you understand.

Considering how important being on the Electoral Role is to getting credit, Martin said on television last night, I find this worrying for all of the Scottish public.

Best answers:

• Surely the electoral register is maintained by your local council. If you are not registered to vote or don't appear on the register you notify the electoral dept. in the council office.
  So far as this Equifax company is concerned, I have just Googled them and they appear to be some kind of private credit company. It is not their concern if you aren't registered to vote, the council deal with your registration.
  I would be very concerned if the council were passing on any of my personal details to a private company.
