A question about : Egg Account

Hi there!

A quick overview - Back when I was a young and naive 18 year old lad I had the best idea of my life! I would apply for an Egg credit card online and request not to be sent a PIN so I could pay for my online games (oh how life was so simple). However after being sent out the credit card with it's lovely limit of 2,000 pounds I proceeded to spend this money in the manner of an 18 year old with an endless amount of free money. Quickly finding the credit card maxed out and struggling with repayments it was sent to Moorcroft DCA to recover the funds. I finally cleared this balance around 2006. I have always wondered whether I had PPI on the account I signed up for online and wondered what the chances would be in claiming this back?. After a long time of searching the forums I am none the wiser.. I am not too smart when it comes to money and such am request a little guidance. I have seen the information request forms however I do have an issue. With the account being so old I do not have details of the credit card number or the account number linked to it. I have sketchy dates and where I lived at the time however that is all. Checking online reports only show the last 6 years and from reading the forums I gather Egg seem to be quite hard to squeeze information out of after 6 years. I have considered PPI claim companies however I wanted to get some advice first. I dont mind paying to obtain information. I understand this is a very very long shot just wanted you opinion?

Any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

  • It's not a matter of egg being hard to squeeze data out of, the law requires them to destroy data which is no longer useful - for closed accounts it's typically 6 years.
Frankly if you have no records yourself, and, given that if your debt was sold to a debt collector they will have written off amounts which they can off-set any PPI refund against, I'd leave this one. You could send a Ј10 DSAR to them for all their records on you but if the account was closed more than 6 years ago chances are you'll get nothing back.
Even if they do still have anything on you, it won't show you were miss-sold and unless you got lucky on it being in the period where they had pre-ticked boxes, you won't be able to prove you were miss-sold especially given it was an online application.
  • Thankyou for the response, I did think it was a long shot. Such is life!
    All the best.
