A question about : EDF Online Saver 7

Anybody know why my gas switch would take approximately two weeks longer than the electricity on a dual fuel contract?

EDF didn't know !

Best answers:

  • Mine took five days longer. They didn't know why either.
  • They've been fined for it in 2009 by OFGEM, it's something to do with the way they process the transfer, all their dual fuel chnages go that way, elec usually transferring from prev supplier to EDF at leat 7 days before gas, and usually up to 2-3 weeks later than elec
  • EDF told me it was because they need clearance from Nat Grid. My Elec went accross to EDF on the 21st of Nov and my gas was the 3rd Dec.
  • Thanks.
It's actually good news for me because my old gas rates are relatively low. I just couldn't understand why it should be different in principle.
  • You need to talk them though as the terms say that until both fuels are with them, you will be charged the standard rate. So while you're saving on the gas, you're paying through the nose on the electric. If you have a moan they will apparently agree to charge you the lower rate from the start. I was going to do that but haven't bothered as it was less than a week.
  • I didn't know that. Thanks.
  • Can you clarify which Term you are referring to,please.
  • What is the billing frequency on this? When will we first see if they charged the standard rate?
  • I had a letter two days before the date of each changeover, one for gas and one for elec, giving the date that supply would be with them so I presume that that counts as them telling me.
  • You're right Backfoot. I just called them. We are put on the standard tariff until the meter readings with the old supplier are confirmed and then they send another letter transferring to the Online7 tariff. But you obviously didn't moan for long enough...
  • I just spoke to the guy who answered my call. He has emailed me confirmation that I will get the tariff from the date of supply. He was insistent on the phone that this was a gesture of goodwill and not as per the contract!
  • I think Im on the same boat here. I have had both letters about my gas & elec but im not sure if they have sent confirmation of the Online Saver 7 ?. Whats the best way for me to approach this and try to get them to bill me for OS7 rates from day one.
I have never seen this sort of T&C before.
  • this is interesting about being billed at a standard rate, i will be calling them tomorrow to ask about this !!
Has anyone signed upto to your" online account" with EDF on their site,
I have all you need is your 12 digit account number,
I have a section for supply c/w cooling off period,
it states my electric change over date is , 31/12/2010 and gas a week later 7//01/2011 . Gas is changed 7 days after
So listening to some above , i take it I will be put on the standard tarriff for electric for a week at a higher rate until my gas is switched ?
