doing my head in this one

a friend who has an ebay account (doesn't use it) and no paypal account wanted some computer parts on ebay

I talked him thru it , buying with his debit card as a guest paypal user.

parts arrived , faulty , communication has been going on for about 5 days with (large) seller

final statement , you post them back at your cost , photocopy and fax proof of postage costs and we will re emberse to your paypal account (what account?)

they refuse point blank to collect faulty parts when new ones are sent or to send postage label.

ebay refunds , please contact seller
this was bought as a guest account , please log into paypal to start refund

what paypal account? there isn't one.

catch 22 , I,m loosing the will to live .

• Have you opened a "case" in eBay. If you do so, it will print you the returns label under the new system.
• no when I try to do a return , it sends me to contact seller or "you have bought this thru paypal , please log onto your account and start a refund"
  there is no paypal account
• Guest users cannot open cases themselves (you may be able to get Paypal CS to do it for you manually). AFAIK they can't even leave feedback.
  Try PP CS first. If not. Get him to return them at a cheap courier price, with tracking.
  Include in the parcel his reason for rejection and the claim for returns postage to be paid (insert his bank details).
  If nothing is heard within 7 days of them receiving send a "letter before action".
  Next time, don't get him to use a guest account.
• ok cheers , so the so called pp protection and the ebay protection are rubbish unless you open a paypal account.
  in this specific case , I did not want to order via my ebay/paypal account , and just helped the customer ,
  as his first purchase via ebay and using paypal , he is not happy , and will go via non ebay sites from now on and pay (as he does now) via a debit card
• the guy was ripped off a few years ago using paypal , so will not give them his info to store
  he is a customer (and a friend) , I did not want to be accused of buying parts from a different location (making money) , so quoted him labour only for the job
• ok finally got thru to ebay , they check the messages sent to me , stating that I (we) had to stand the postage , and were not happy , they put us thru to paypal who said because of this , they were going to credit the buyers debit card and to retain the goods , or throw them away..

• well it seems that retailers DON,T have to abide by ebay rules , ie, pay for postage returns or send a pre paid label

  no but it clearly states that ebay purchases bought thru paypal are covered
  it does,nt actually state THAT YOU HAVE TO BECOME A MEMBER OF THE PAYPAL CLUB.
