A question about : Eating out in Stirling

Hiya, OH and myself are having a 2 night break in Stirling next weekend 29th and 30th November, i've got us free entry tickets to the castle but does anyone have any recommendations of somewhere nice to eat out. I'm not fussed whether its cheap and cheerful or a bit pricey as it's our wedding anniversary, though i'm more of the cheap and cheerful kind of girl title=Embarrassment but could push the boat out for the occasion.
Thanks

  • Up by the castle you have the Portcullis where you can get a pub meal by an open fire:
    www.theportcullishotel.com/
Also nearby and a bit 'posher' is Hermann's:

    Where are you staying?
  • Thank you, they both look lovely, will show OH the links, we are staying in the holiday inn express which is slightly outside Stirling i think but we've no problems driving in during the day and maybe jumping in a taxi to go out at night. Making the most of it as its not often we get one night never mind two with the kids.
    Thanks again
  • The River House is lovely, and is just outside Stirling.

They have good deals on their lunch and early evening menus, then the same food jumps up in price later in the evening.
  • Used to go to the Indian Brasserie for their early evening buffet. Excellent value if you like Indian food - with a drink each it was about Ј16 for two I seem to recall. I think they have other places around town too.
  • Thanks everyone for the suggestions, it's easy to look it up online but nice to get personal recommendations so thanks very much, you've given us food for thought
  • Gabe's Diner is not far from you and that is very good - it's in a strange building near the cinema. Last time I was in it was a BYOB so quite MSE. My favourite Indian restaurant is the Green Gates (number one on Trip advisor). Cibo e Vino in the Crawford Arcade - strange location but has fantastic Italian food.
If you're venturing out of Stirling the Forth Inn in Aberfoyle is the best for food and atmosphere. Nice tearooms can be found on the road towards Alloa (Coffee Bothy) or the Woodhouse just on the Kippen roundabout. And Toast is lovely - just next to the cinema.
    Have a great weekend.
  • Just catching up on this post.
Where did you go in the end? Hope you had a great couple of nights in Stirling...
