A question about : EasyJet expenses claim

Like many people I was stuck in Alicante in April 2010 due the volcanic ash cloud. At the airport I was told that I could make my own way home and EasyJet would pay for car hire, hotels and food on the way. I was told at the time they probably wouldn't pay for the ferry journey from Calais to Dover.

When I got home I emailed EasyJet who said they would not pay car hire and would only pay for hotels in Alicante. I made the decision to get home under my own steam based on the information I was given at the airport. Had I been told they wouldn't pay all these things I would have been tempted to have a free ten day holiday on EasyJet and return home on the flights available. As it is I saved them five days of accomodation and food costs for five people. I have had many emails back and forth. I have written to the CEO twice and both letters have been ignored. I have written to BBC Watchdog and they don't seem to be interested. I have emailed David Miliband, my local MP, who on the news told all the peopel who were stranded to get home whichever way they could.

My travel insurance comany will pay for some of my expenses, but not all over them. They won't look at the claim until after I've dealt with EasyJet and they jsut won't pay for anything. They have even rejected the claim for the villa which we hired for an extra three days when we first got stuck. They first of all said I needed the full address of the villa on the receipt. When I got this and emailed it I was told that it wasn't a proper receipt!

I have written to the AUC but I am still waiting to hear from them.

Any advice on what to do next would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Debbie

  • All that information was on the villa receipt. I think they;re just fobbing me off in the hope that I give up. I'd love to know of anyone who has taken this to court and what the outcome was.
    Thanks for the reply.
  • I would be very interested in your Small Claims experience with Easyjet. I am thinking of starting one against Eurolines.
  • Please to say that EasyJet paid the vast majority of what I was asking for! Would pay drink bills that weren't itemised, as they don't pay for alcohol (which is fair enough). It's taken the best part of a year, but I got there eventually.
  • No, I meant they wouldn't pay for drinks bill that weren't itemised. I do think it's fair enough though. They should really be paying for people to get drunk!
  • Has anyone had any dealings with the small claims agains Easyjey? I note some comments on here but no update. I have posted elsewhere re their refusal to pay for my food costs, they refused car hire however, paid all my extra villa accom. Surely this is an admission on liability? I did not have itemised food receipts but forwarded bank statements detailing what I took out. This showed more than I am actually claiming therefore, remaining reasonable and not taking the proverbial. I have invited them to suggest a reasonable daily rate but they have not. I sought 200 euro for a 7 day delay. Grateful for any help, thanks.
  • Perhaps provide a full analysis of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner showing that the food consumed and cost was reasonable and see if they respond to this.
  • Thanks for the information. Well done for your perseverance.
