A question about : E-Platinum Plus

Whilst updating my status on my facebook page my attention was drawn to an ad offering an Instant Ј500 Credit Card -
Get Ј5000 credit to spend right now. No credit check. Apply now in just 60 seconds! they say, a credit card with no credit check? - mmmmm - the old adage You should only believe half of what you see, and none of which you hear comes to mind - but curiosity - ok, nosiness takes over and I click the ad.

This is not a Visa nor is it a Mastercard, in fact it isn't actually even really a credit card, it is a membership to what looks like some kind of online catalouge, with a Ј500 credit limit to buy whatever you like from a limited range of goods.

The terms and conditions - https://www.e-platinumplus.co.uk/eterms.html give the whole game away.

It looks like an elaborate con, can anyone vouch for them?

.

Best answers:

  • Had a feeling it was something untoward, haven't checked their prices - the fact they want seventy something pounds put me off straight away! I wonder how many will be fooled into joining?
    Says 0%??!! I don't understand. Hidden charges?
EDIT: Found it - THE COST OF MEMBERSHIP IN THE E-CREDIT PLUS™ SHOPPING CLUB PROGRAM IS Ј79.95. THE MONTHLY MAINTENANCE FEE IS Ј4.95 PER MONTH.
EDIT 2: Hahaha when you try and navigate away from the application page it offers you half price membership at Ј39 lol
  • Block all adverts and you'll not notice garbage like this.
  • Get Ad Block Plus add-on for Firefox. I don't see any adverts
  • www.firefox.com
AdBlock Plus https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 -nice and simple for anyone using Firefox
NoScript https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722 This is a heavy duty Addon which is a great bit of kit as it blocks EVERYTHING unless you tell it different. So, you need to add all your favourite sites first. If unsure don't use it or at least read the reviews and FAQ.
You can own your Internet and it's free. It's called Firefox.
  • As my credit score is not as healthy as it could be then I find this to be be a possible alternative for store cards but as they show nothing of what I could buy apart from some featured products with no prices then I don't think I would bother.
Anyone know where I can get an online catalouge?
  • If only i had come here first I was busy playing around with it then it approved me then in small print 99.95 shall be taken from you account! I was furious but theyre lines are constantly busy and with in half an hour they had taken the money from my account! no I await to speak to them and hopefully get all my money back!
    STAY AWAY FROM THEM!
  • Just thought I'd mention that the webpage requesting your card details is unsecure as well so it's REALLY unsafe to type in your existing card details because it means that they could be intercepted. Ihussle247, I suggest you check your card statements carefully or cancel your card for safety.
  • Just out of curiosity, would anyone be able to post a link to their website? The one with the stuff to buy, I mean.
  • If you also check the page url the pages arn't encrypted, therefore your sending your details in plaintext cross the internet. Even if the page does say 100% secure and confidential, there still not using a ssl certificate (https).
As a side note theres no detail checking other than just to make sure that it conforms with the syntax of the type of box. i.e. type a duff address and it'll still attemp to sign you up!
  • Have to admit that I was tempted to apply as the I saw the same advert on facebook. Everything about it suggested that it was a credit card you were applying for. However, when I checked I discovered it is infact a store card type credit card.
    Their charges are something else,
    Acceptance fee Ј79:99
Monthly fee Ј4:95 (called a maintenance fee)
    Inactivity fee Ј9:99 (monthly)
I'm glad that I didn't complete the application process
  • Well. I only just came across this forum while doing the stupid thing of researching this scam AFTER it got me.
The bad news is it got me without me realising. Yes, that makes me sound stupid but bear in mind I am 19 and not particularly up to date with all these scams...I don't particularly watch Watchdog e.c.t i was used to applications being "pre-approved" then some annoying phone calls in the next few days without getting anywhere.
But the good news of my age is that actually, I only have 51p in my account which is only a current account, it cannot overdraw. And as soon as i realised what I had let myself in for, I cut up my card into little bits. And it is the card number, expiry date and 3 digit security code they ask for so I'm assuming the cutting of the card (Which, also, is an electron, I'm not sure that was in the option i just put it down as debit) and the 51p in my account will cancel the whole thing...I guess I'll find out tomoro.....this is beyond s*** really isn't it?
Anyone still up who has any advice on my experience so stop me staying up all night by any chance?
  • Just report your card as stolen - say you lost your purse/wallet earlier today and have just managed to ring now...... mention your driving licence was also lost (even if you dont drive) which will explain the address verification if they attempt to take payment lol.
  • sadly they stung me too it wasnt till after they accepted me that i found out the charge was comming out of my account i asumed it was going to come off this non existant credit store card scam thing arghhhhhh.
however with much diliberation and losts of phone calls they agreed to send the money back but heres the wierd stuff my bank said if they fax us over the codes saying they dont want the money we will give it you today and guess what the entire company apparently cant fax???????? what ?????? an apparent trust worthy huge company and no fax machine i was told we can email your bank however it wont be company headed paper ??????? what no company logo on external mailing ???????? hmmm worrying and also the guy slipped up and said american express yet i though it was e platinum ????? confusing als i was told that if the money hadnt left my account but been put on a lay away system till it was collected the company could do an automatic refund ooooohhhh guess what THEY CANT DO THAT "we dont have the system" ive been pumped major style and im such a fool ADVICE TO ANY ONE AND EVERY ONE STEER CLEAR THEYRE ROBBING US BLIND.
