A question about : do you allow xbox live?

My ds (7) friends are on xbox live and they play minecraft together.

he has been asking to join for ages I have always said no, however he does miss out on the social interaction they have with this so I am thinking of allowing him to join for his 8th birthday.

I have been googling and it appears my fears of him speaking to anyone are wrong, google tells me with xbox you can only interact with friends, it is only the PC version that allow strangers to play together. Is this correct? Apparently I can also control who he allows as friends https://forums.xbox.com/xbox_forums/g...0/t/13445.aspx

If the above is correct I feel happier about letting him use it. Does anyone else have a child who has xbox live? and how do you find it?

I also want to be able to hear what is being said, is there a way I can get the sound to come out of the tv rather than the headphones? His xbox is downstairs I would be in the same room if I allow him to go on.

Best answers:

  • Xbox 360 or Xbox One?
On the Xbox 360 you can go to Settings, Preferences, Voice and select Speakers, Headset or Both.
I don't have an Xbox One but apparently you need the Kinect to route party chat through the speakers for some stupid reason.
If it is an Xbox One and this is important to you then you could look at an alternative option, such as renting a private TeamSpeak server, or using Skype via a tablet, laptop or phone while they play?
  • My sons age 8and 13 both have xbxox live and they are supervised at the xbox is downstairs, my 8 year old on,y has 1 friend with an xbox 1 like him though so I don't have much to worry about! He's minecraft mad!
