A question about : Do i have to accept return?

Hi, I sold an item and today the buyer has messaged saying they dont like it and can they send it back for a full refund. I am a private seller so presume the 14 day return rule doesnt apply 'because you changed your mind'. I have however by accident/default just noticed that my listing says i do accept refunds title=Mad. Do i have to go with this or can i refuse. I will lose Ј3.90 on the postage it cost to send, thanks.

Best answers:

  • You can refuse but doing that comes with a risk.
The buyer can decide to examine the goods more closely and they might suddenly find that they are damaged or otherwise not as describe and open a dispute for that, a dispute that they are almost certain to win.
If that was to happen, not only would you end up paying for your goods to be returned to you, what you get back might well be damaged.
It would be better to tell your buyer that you are happy to accept the return, advising them that it would best to post the goods back by a trackable method, something that will be at their expense.
Once they realise that they have to cover the return costs, they may well decide to keep it.
  • As you have returns accepted ticked you need to accept the return. Easiest way is to agree to the return and tell them to return it at their own cost.
  • Accept, await the return and refund and resell.
