A question about : Dart Tag migration to Dart Charge

For people who currently have a Dart Tag the emails are coming out about migrating to the new system and it warns you need to do so by the 30th November.

You also need a unique tag for every car your register, so if you currently share a tag between cars allow extra time to order more tags.

I have registered my cars on the new system now, but the payment system seems to be down- but the help line is answered very quickly so I managed to get it sorted.

I pity anyone in the habit of taking long holidays at this time of year, the procedure to migrate to the new system came out very late- we only have 2 and a bit weeks to get it set up.

  • I registered for the new Dart Charge account and I've got three cars registered on the one account.
  • So I need to order another tag - which I won't need in the next couple of weeks - just so I can register two cars on their system? Sounds daft.
    I've been putting off contacting them until they finally make up their minds when the system is going live and what the switching process is.
    I have two cars and one tag, and swap it back and forth as required. I have never given them the registration number of either car, and I couldn't find anything in the T&Cs that restricted a tag to one car.
  • How strange, mine didn't say that, I got it about 10 days ago, don't know if that makes a difference.
    If we all NEED tags it's going to make it overly complicated, we have people at different addresses registered. From this bit it's not entirely clear whether you actually need tags too, it's a bit vague:

    That makes more sense. Why they couldn't put that anywhere I don't know.

I have tried phoning them, but all you get is a recorded message telling you how busy they are and to use the website, I tried emailing them but the email system appears to be broken as well

    So far, I haven't linked my one tag to either car. From reading their T&Cs https://www.dartford-crossing-charge...Conditions.pdf, you do not need to have a tag on a car, but can if you want to. It sounds like the tag system is intended for regular users, as it's faster and more reliable than ANPR. I can imagine they have teams of people in an office somewhere manually reading any number plates that the system can't read by itself.
    I remain to be convinced that their top-up system actually works. At the moment, it's telling me that my balance is Ј9.39, then immediately below that, it says "Your account will automatically top-up by Ј10.00 when your balance drops below Ј10.00."
  • Update on my crossings.
    I made two crossings yesterday, around 11.30 and 17.00, both were showing on my account this morning.
    I made another two today but they're not showing yet.
    I only used ANPR, not a tag.
  • If you go to their login page today, there's a notice:
    "Some crossings may take up to 48 hours to appear on your account"
    The system has finally spotted that my balance was under Ј10 and topped it up. I should now have enough credit to last the best part of a year now. I'll wait a bit before trying to phone and ask what to do with the old Dart Tag, as I'm not expecting to use the crossing again until January.
