A question about : Daily spends

How much do you think is too much to spend daily on odds and ends like choccie bars and lunch?

I spend about 5 pound a day (25 quid a week) when I work 12 hour days on a lunch and some chocolate. I feel it might be too much to spend but there again in 12 hours you do need a good meal with a pudding, so maybe its not.

  • This isn't an old style question, so I've moved your thread to where it might get more response.
If you want some ideas on making your own lunches and snacks to save money, have a look back in on Old Style, where I'm sure you'll get lots of help.
  • It's not really a matter of what is too much and what is not as everyone is different.
If you are happy with your spending, and can afford it then there isn't a problem. Although I suspect others will ask why you are spending that much as it would be cheaper to take a packed lunch to work etc.
The main point is DO YOU think you are spending too much?
  • I think 10 quid or 2 quid a day is about right, however, 2 quid a day is not enough to survive 8-8 in the cold days of winter is it?
  • Well make your own lunches then you wont spend as much. Does your workplace have a microwave you can use to warm things up?
  • There is a microwave but it is a matter of having something to take to warm up.
  • If you want something really simple, then you can always take a can of soup to work and heat it up when necessary. That is if you don't make your own. There are some fab recipes on the Old Style board AND some great lunch ideas.
My packed lunch normally involves some pitta bread and houmous, which I keep at work and "top up" when required (ie I run out!!). Then I also take a yoghurt and various pieces of fruit. This sees me through the day. DH on the other hand, has a couple of rounds of sandwiches, a yoghurt, sometimes a muffin/cake (either homemade or bought ) and again, plenty of fruit.
  • You know what I mean finding 5 different things for each day is a tough job. Things that are not too heavy to carry and all that.
  • You're having a laugh... you're burning cash quicker than you can earn it if you're spending £5 on lunch/choccy.
Easiest solution could be: go to a supermarket that flogs "5 for £2" meals. Grab 5 chilled ones (check the best before dates will last the 5 days). Then run round to the chocolate aisle and get a bag of own brand mini bars of something for about £1 (I got 11 mini bounty bars in Tesco for 75p yesterday).
So, for £3, you're sorted for a quick/easy lunch including chocolate ... for the whole week
As a young bloke, even if you went for microwaveable chips/burgers you can get them quite cheap if you only head for the bargains.
Or, get your mum to make you up meals to take and microwave
  • That is what I think that I am spending it faster than I can earn it.
  • Why do you need 5 things for lunch?
Haven't you got a backpack to carry stuff in?
  • On a previous post you said your weight was 17 stones. Why not skip lunch? Another plus - you won't need to carry it.....and you can buy new clothes with the £100+ per month that you save....
  • See The Demotivator at the top of the page in the step by step guides. Type in how much you spend on chocolate and then decide if that is too much. Frightened the life out of me.
  • I much rather save my precious money 9each to your own I suppose) on more practical things and make my own lunch, drinks etc. Much better than wasting £5 on sandwiches, over priced crisps, chocolate. If you going to eat that and I dont knock people for having a bit luxury is buy it in multipacks and take it with you. I save hundreds over the years on this, and kids take there own lunch to school.
When you have fallen on hard times it teaches you to be careful with your money
