A question about : a couple of water/energy saving ideas

Delighted to see this new board title=Thanks,

I don't have a washing machine at the moment but use a launderette about a 15-minute walk away. Rather than use the 20p-guzzling tumble driers in the launderette, I take the clothes home after washing, where I have a very efficient spin dryer that removes most of the water at a fraction of the energy use/cost of the tumble drier. The water can be used in the garden or for houseplants. If the weather's no good, I'll hang the clothes up to dry indoors and put my de-humidifier in the room. The de-humidifier works by drawing moisture out of the atmosphere and filtering it into a tank. I also use it in the bathroom after a bath or shower. Once a week I empty the tank and use the water - at the moment I'm using it to scrub down my walls in preparation for redecorating!

  • All good stuff, with the possible exception of the dehumidifer - these are quite hungry beasts when it comes to electricity consumption!
