cost of tiling

A question about : cost of tiling

hi i need some tiling doing in my kitchen sorry if it;s not worked out rightly but overall it is 16ft long by 18 inches high . what would be a fair quote for this . any help much appriciatred

• Let's round it up to standard 5m x 0.5m, so that's 2.5 sqm, typical rate is around £80 per sqm, but job is relatively small, so I would say you should be expecting quotes of around £250 and up.
• Eighty pounds per sq metre is absurd. Ive been quoted twenty five pounds a square metre and I thought that was expensive!!
• I would have to provide all the tiles and materials, they would charge twenty five pounds a sq metre just for putting them up.
• hi guys thanks for your replys: yes Ј80 does seem a lot of money! don't think i can offord that .i live in west yorkshire and would provide the tiles, grout & tea. anyone know any easier way around this can you still get tile boards or the ones that come on a sheet might be able to B I Y (bodge it myself)
• Carole - Is west Yorkshire near Todmorden? Thats near where I live and I got my bathroom tiled for Ј100 (7m2) and Ј52 on tiles. I went into the local pub at 5pm and looked for men in overalls. This is the same way that I got my huge kitchen fitted for Ј400 including electrics and gas, my bathroom suite fitted for Ј200 and a CORGI reg engineer to replace my back boiler and start from scratch with condensing combi and he cvharged me? Ј80 a day for 3 days work!
  If there's no one in the pub, there's usually someone who knows someone.... word of mouth is the best way I find to get work men!
  EDITED- sorry got a bit confused when I wrote this and thought I was talking about something else. It wasn't Ј240 for the boiler, that was for the gas fire for rectifying the chimney, bricking parts of it up, repairing the flue and fitting it. The boiler was Ј700 including all materials (expect actual boiler) including Therms on 6 rads and filling loop (these alone is about Ј45-50) waste pipe and labour for 2 men for 2 days, as well as CORGI certificate and safety checks. The best other quote I got was Ј1500 supply and fit (My boiler cost Ј399 from B&Q so in total it was Ј1100) Most quotes were between Ј1600-1800
• I just got quoted Ј900 to lay 210 floor tiles.
  I have the tiles, grout and adhesive.
  The charge was labour only!
  Off down the pub to look for anyone with grout on their hands...
• sweety do it yourself be brave!! lol im doing my shower cubicle myself and kitchen!!, save yourself a bomb. just take your time and get all the right tools
• 80 pounds a sqmtre is a joke. i live in london and had quotes up to 45 per sqm and that was from a bathroom designer, it cost me 18 per sqmt in the end and the chap did a nice job. at 80 per sqmtre i suppose they have gold grout for that money!
• i had a quote a few weeks ago for a shorter length but about the same height, the whole lot 90quid. i had already taken off the tiles and loads of adhesive was still stuck on the walls and he didnt quote for removing this so i've asked him for that.. still waiting for a reply..

• is Ј35 per sqmt ok thats our rough quote? i need about 6sqmt and then the cost of the tiles isnt cheap what do you think?
• von for a non skilled person 250pounds a day for a tiler is a joke it is tricks on how to cut tiles and how quick you are at laying them which comes with time. we had 14sqmtre of tiles put on a wall and it took our chap 1 and a half days to do the job and he supplied the grout and adhev. and this was not a botched job as he gave us photos of jobs he had done.the only way i would pay more for tiling would be for mosaic or natural stone but not 80per sqmtre!
• the only good thing that comes with contracters employing poles for building work is a lot of greedy builders are feeling a bit put out tough but i do think 40 quid a day is a joke and i would not work for that. and as for paying plummers and sparks 200per day have already done that and thought that was a fair price.i understand charging more for small jobs as you have to go back next day to grout but come on 80 persq mtre.i suppose if you live in battersea and fulham you would be prepared to pay that but not in the south east.
• no i would not . for a plummer corgi reg and spark part p reg as well as being time served skilled i feel justified paying 200 per day.
