I got a new passport in January last year, and now getting married in September this year.

I'm trying to find out how much it will cost to change my name, I'm hoping not the full price since its brand new anyway.

Anyone able to advise?

• I'm afraid it is the full usual renewal price. They'll add up to 9 months to the length of the passport to cover unused time on your old passport, but that's it.

  Be careful if you're booking a honeymoon as you have to make sure the booking name and the passport name you'll have when you go match up. See the page above for info.
  You can opt to just leave your passport in your maiden name and use that when booking holidays, but if you use your married name generally then you wouldn't be able to use your passport as a form of ID.

  You could always keep the passport in your maiden name.

• Yes, as above you can't 'change your name' on your passport as such, you have to have a new one (anyone else remember the days when they just used to put a line through your old name and write your new one in?)
  But there's no reason why you can't continue to travel in your maiden name until it runs out.
• I would book all travel in your current name and keep the paper unchanged.
• OP, if you leave the passport in your maiden name, you could always update your driving licence photocard to your married name to use as ID for the next few years.
• Be warned if you leave it in your maiden name to remember this every single time you book a flight.
  I did this with mine and forgot once and didn't realise til the boarding gate (online check in) and by then it was too late, missed my trip and lost the cost of my flight.
  I changed it to my married name then, as it was cheaper than losing flights.
• I changed my name by deed poll after renewing my passport but never updated it. I use my passport with my deed poll as ID and ive never had a problem.
• Get your husband-to-be to change his name to yours. Problem solved.
• I got married December 2013 and my passport runs out in 2016. I've just been travelling in my maiden name, doesn't bother me! Saves me the Ј70-odd fee.

  I had thought about leaving it in my maiden name, I don't think I want to pay for a new passport when I've got 8yrs 11months left on it.
• I kept my ex's name because of this too. I think he thought I was holding some kind of candle to him!
• Could you ask for a new passport as a wedding present? Of more use & will last longer than some things you may be given!
