A question about : Consumer rights to a refund for a Quotation

Hi There

I am in the process in having my boiler repaired. I have already contacted a company who have attended my house and given me a full quotation of the work. I verbally agreed to this over the telephone and I was waiting to be contacted with a date to carry out the work. I waited for over week and I still had no contact from the company. I decided to chase this up and contacted the company myself. I spoke to there accounts department and it appears that this job had been missed however she did point out that i had a outstanding invoice ( the quotation for the engineers time when he diagnosed the fault) I paid this over the telephone. She apologised and said she will chase this up.
I waited another week still no contact! i then decided to chase this up again. I spoke to the same person and she apologised again and explained that the part had not been ordered. As you can appreciate I was not happy with this excuse.

I am not clear on two things here; 1. Why do i pay a quotation fee if I am giving the work to the company? Would you expect this to be deducted from the overall job?

2. If i want to cancel the job because they have messed me about plus I am not confident that the part will arrive on time will I be able to get a full refund from the quotation fee I have already paid?

  • 1) What did their T&Cs say about quotations? (Having the quote discounted off the cost of works would be normal).
    2) Probably no, but it depends on what the T&Cs say.
