A question about : Confused over NHS pension changes

Hi,

I have 18.5 years pension pot saved up in the NHS scheme. I worked 9 years full time and have been part time (3 days) since maternity leave number 1.
If I leave my 1995 scheme pension where it is (or transfer to the 2008 scheme) will I still have access to it at 60? I understand that if I move it all to the new 2015 scheme then I won't have access to any of it until I am 67 (and reach state pension age)?
I am also looking into retraining due to relocation of my job so not sure whether to leave my accumulated pension, so far, in the 1995 scheme for this reason.
Hubby is 10 years older than me and I am not sure I want to work until 67! My job in the NHS involves a lot of unsocial hours and travel during the night.

Best answers:

  • Oh, and I may go full time in the next few years (with either career).
  • There is advice on the NHS Pensions site. Are you Union member? I know Unite has been doing talks about this so it might be worth investigating the various union sites such as Unite, Unison, Royal College of Nursing, Radiographers etc
I am on 95 scheme but am protected. But I do know that you had to consider:
    1. Age you want to retire
    2. Whether likely to increase salary by career progression and the differences on how the 3 sets of pension are calculated
    3. Lump sum requirement
