A question about : Comparison of car hire deals

Another example of the dodgy car hire business. Used Carrentals.co.uk and selected a car from Carehireextra.co.uk (Salzburg, 28th Feb for 1 week = Ј130.57)On the details page it says THIS rental includes free insurance protection - free CDW and theft. Then when you go to the terms and conditions it says CDW and theft protection is NOT included. Further into the booking they add mandatory Ј36 for snow tyres so I abandoned the booking. Comparison sites do not compare like for like and its so difficult to compare one option with another. You have to get almost to the payment stage before you know the real cost. About time this business was brought to book. Managed to get a similar inclusive price from economy carrentals .com

  • What worked for me recently was to do the initial comparison and then go with the cheapest *actual* car rental firm that popped up, rather than one of the many brokers. I probably didn't get the very cheapest deal out there, but I got to the final price a lot more quickly - especially when it came to adding on an extra driver. (Then again, I don't pick the car up until this Friday...)
