A question about : Claiming for deceased person
Hi, does anyone know if I would be able to check into and claim for possible ppi/mortgage mis-selling for my deceased father who died 13 years ago? I know he had loans and a mortgage so could quite possibly have had ppi. The banks say they can only check back 6 years so don't know what I can do about this. It would really help my elderly mother to have a chance to sort this.
Best answers:
- If you are the executer of the will or have probate you can complain yes - if you don't have any documentation though you'll be hard pushed to get anywhere as the banks will have destroyed all the data in line with the Data Protection Act once 6 years or so has gone since the accounts were closed (they may still have old records on microfiche but unless it's easily searchable it won't be found).
On top of that, what would your complain reasons be? If the person is deceased you cannot make any claims about what happened at the time unless another witness was present i.e. you cannot claim he was not told what he was signing
