A question about : Child & Co Bankers ?

Hi There

I was looking on a thread on this Forum about people who did not want there RBS accounts to become Santander accounts due to the branch sell off in England. Some people on the thread were saying that they just transfered their account to Child & Co so they didn't have to change, and also said that Opening an account at Messrs Drummond is just like at any other branch which has surprised me as I thought these banks were just like Coutts and Adam & Company where you have to have very high assets or income to become a client.

I still highly doubt what they are saying is true, and maybe this is what they thought they could do, but if true, you can just open an account with Child or Drummond this would shock me.

Finding information about Child and Drummond is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, and its odd that RBS run websites for Coutts and Adam but not Child and Drummond.

Is there anyone on here that is with Child or Drummond and can give me some helpful information about the Banks, or anyone they moved there account to any of them to avoid Santander.

Thanks

  • I understand Drummonds and Childs are branches of RBS that aren't being transferred to Santander. Opening an account there is a matter of selecting those branches whilst opening an account.
  • Could anyone - regardless of income or assets - open an account at the Child & Co branch and be accepted like it was a standard RBS account?
Is there anything else different about it at all - like a more personal service or special credit cards, etc.?
I've seen someone post their rather impressive and unusual looking Child & Co debit card pictures in the forum somewhere before. They look cool.
  • Was on the RBS website and went on the Personal Royalties Gold account page and on the right hand side it says something about arranging to open your account in branch. If you select London as your city comes up with branches called RBS Child & Co and RBS Drummond.
So I'm guessing that it may well be possible to open an average RBS account but get the C&C debit card due to your branch.

  • It would be interested to hear what they have to say.
  • Just in the middle of opening an account with Child and Co. so far extremely good, very efficient, relationship manger is excellent and on the ball with everything.
Opened Royalties Gold myself. Need Ј100k salary for Black account which is same as RBS. Due to my salary and potential salary due to career I am eligible for private banking which is good news.
    So far, excellent.
  • I opened an account back in the 1980s when I worked in London. As with now, you had to go in person to open it. I have banked with them for nearly 30 years now, and been more than happy with them.
It shows that an 'ordinary person', not part of the banking or legal elite, can get an account with an exclusive private bank! (I certainly would not qualify for Hoare's, Coutts or Adam & Co).
  • Still very happy with Childs. I did have email contact with them until my very excellent relationship manager moved to a different part of the business which was shame.
  • You should be able to select London Drummonds during the online account opening. The sortcode is 160038. The only difference is that the cheque books are Drummonds branded.
  • Childs have their own branded debit card and cheque book too.
If RBS is to privatise soon, maybe they will result back to a private bank.
  • I know this is a very old thread, but they've recently changed their card design, it's no longer gold, it's blue
  • gold seemed appropriate, with their roots as a goldsmiths
is there a separate Child&Co website?...can't see one
  • This is the old gold one:
This is the new blue card:
Think the new blue one looks more classy, the gold one looks cheap IMO
  • yes, cool card.
so, eligibility to open the account?
and can transactions be carried out over the counter at a NatWest branch? or an RBS branch?
  • thanks...i was looking on the RBS website...
