A question about : Cheap way to infill/level a garden
I've got a sloping garden and have decided to level the lawn, by putting up a concrete block retaining wall and infilling.
Problem is - what's the cheapest way to buy infill material? The builder's merchant didn't seem to stock anything obvious, and as I guesstimate I'll need around 2 cubic meters (possibly more) it would be very expensive to do with builder's ballast.
Any ideas for practical ways to infill would be appreciated.
Best answers:
- Have you actully costed the price of ' builder's ballast' ?
You would know exactly what the stuff was, it would be delivered ( an expensive item)
You could find free 'stuff' just a mile away , but how are you going to move it?
My first thought , think drainage. - It's a fair point - at least I shouldn't end up with toxic waste or something else unpleasant in with it if I buy proper builder's ballast. It's around Ј40 a tonne, plus delivery.
I'm working on my neighbour, trying to persuade him to knock down and rebuild his wall (it needs it) but I don't think he's going to go for that.
Just wondering if there's a direct source of crushed building rubble, for example. - There's always people giving away free hardcore. But it won't be neatly crushed and graded, and you'll have to transport it yourself (which is why they are giving it away).
