A question about : Changing Euros back to Pounds

I used to work in Germany and I have recently moved back to Britain. However I received my last paycheck just before I left and I had no option but it just bring the money back with me. on 780Ђ Natwest said they'd only give me about Ј630 which I think is a really bad rate. Does anyone know how I can make the most of my money? Is it worth simply saving it until I go on holiday etc however I don't know when that would be. HELP!! xx

Best answers:

  • If you can afford to hang onto it until or until the money markets change to your advantage - why not?
  • Don't you know someone going on holiday to Europe - they surely would be happy to split the spread(difference between buying and selling Euros) and have no commission.
  • All my friends are also languages students and also have more Euros than they can handle. So I don't know anyone who would want more.
  • I had 1000 to change back into Ј's the other day. I went in to Thomson's & changed them back. Got 1.19 for them. No ID required. Hope that helps.
  • is the best place to do this at a local travel agent then?
would any travel agent do this?
    thanks
  • https://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/buy-back/ may help
Most travel agents will do it but the rates won't be all that good. You will need to shop around to find the best one.
  • Citibank today offering Ј672.73 for online banking transfer of Ј780 Euros from Citi UK-based EUR account to Citi UK-based GBP account.
  • I have a similar situation and also looking for the same advice I think...
I have Euros in a French bank account. At the end of the month I will return back to the UK. I will close my french euro account and transfer all my money into my UK (GBP) account.
My questions to you all are; 1) Is this the right thing to do? 2) Is there a better thing to do in order to maximise my bank balance?
Obviously in France I can take out my Euros just like we all do with GBP on the UK highstreet, ie. at no exchange rate charge. It is my thinking that there must be some (legal) way of maximising the value of these Euros. Either by transferring directly to my UK account. Or by withdrawing a few 100 Euros and keeping them for a future trip to Europe (if the rate is going to get worse for GBP) or whether there is some other way.

  • Why not poet on one of the expats site forums. Lots of people in Europe on UK pensions will read and may do a Ј-€ swap. Trouble is that both of you need to look out for forgeries, there are good € and Ј out there.
