A question about : Change from Sky or Virgin to full streaming set up

Just wondering as I have been thinking about this for a while, currently have Sky full package apart from sports and also signed up to Netflix.

Has anyone ever tried just streaming all TV, signing up to all three services NOW TV, Netflix and Amazon would you actually miss out on any TV if you watched TV by streaming? Would this actually save you money on a full sky or virgin subscription?

It has been a questioned I wondered, but I did not know how NOW TV worked in regards to recent programs such as Walking Dead etc.

Best answers:

  • Well got 3 of the nowtv boxes this last month and so far pleased with service, one of the voucher codes with box wouldn't work so getting to live chat on community at Now tv is a bit difficulty but they do reply to posts on forum quickly.
Look at my other post about getting discounts with now tv.
For a Ј10 you can't go wrong with box and can install plex as well. to share pics music and video from your computer.

  • Our house is stream only. No TVL and no freeview, just a PC and a chromebook so we don't watch anything live.
Currently doing the rounds on the various 30 days free trials. We may well subscribe to Now tv when we've exhausted all these. But there is a lot of stuff out there that is free via Youtube and such (not sure how legal that is though). I quite like not having to pay out for any of this though!
I think Now TV with the Movies might be a good option for you, I'm not sure I would bother with Netflix
  • Used to subscribe to the overpriced and unreliable Virgin cable service many years ago but things have moved on and it is perfectly possible to live off streaming only at a fraction of the price.
In my opinion there is almost nothing worthwhile on Freeview other then the same old soaps, reality TV and just plain garbage.
So our viewing comprises of YouTube, occasional Catchup, Netflix and now tv. daughter has found many more streaming music channels which is better than having an old fashioned stereo.
I find it great how you can cast channels to the TV rather using the old fashioned remote
Strangely I still have the TV licence although I don't need it but not really wanting the hassle of goons at the door even though we are rural and very hard to find
PS the [almost] complete lack of adverts when streaming is great.
  • It does sound like a good idea, I am just wondering what I would miss out on if I completely got rid of Sky TV.
My only problem is that I am a HD snob and NOW TV is currently not full HD and may not even be Dolby surround sound, I am not sure on this.
I would want Netflix and Amazon Prime happy to pay for them both as they both, especially Netflix have some original series which I do watch quite often.
You would also have to pay for a good internet supplier, but we have virgin fibre installed anyway.
  • I have a NOWTV box, good for watching movies, catchup and live SKY tv and NETFLIX. I also have a chromecast (ideal for streaming) and BT Youview (useless box even for freeview).
Will happily dump BT's youview once the contract ends.
