A question about : Census Jobs

I used the google thing on the forum the other day to see if there had been a post on this but couldn't find anything. Has anyone heard much back from them? I have done all the online part and had the telephone interview and they said they would be in contact within 2 weeks either way, which it is now 2 and a half weeks, and have still not heard a bean. I was given a phone number if I had any questions, but its 0845. Has anybody heard back after a telephone interview?

Best answers:

  • I just had my interview today, but the chap I talked to said 2 - 3 weeks, so maybe they're running a bit behind or have changed it since yours?
Best of luck with it anyway!
  • I did smile at all the spamming that went (and still goes) on for these jobs. At one point someone in officialdom said something like "Although we are loosing jobs in the public sector, we are creating positions thanks to the census".
Must come as a big comfort to those that lost their jobs that they may get a couple of weeks temping in the spring of 2011. That should sort out the mortgage LOL.
  • The other day a friend was talking about this - his neighbour was doing it, I *really* wanted to ask about it but didn't get the chance. Whats the score ehre? is it just delivering the census forms then going back for them? that'll be a heap of fun knocking on doors to get those back. From my years of doorknocking 95% of people are charming and delightful but the other 5% are right barstools!
  • Hi Dawyldthing, I had my phone interview on Friday and they said 3 weeks so they are obviously running late, hope you hear this week.
Morethanconcered, yep you've summed it up but its not that bad - not like your trying to sell something, I did it last time and it pays well enuf to tempt me back cgx
  • For those of you who had the phone interview already - what is it like? what sort of questions did they ask? Did they discuss working hours?
I have mine on Thursday and I am getting a little nervous
  • Hi Turtle2k1
I have just completed my telephone interview. Very basic, was on the telephone 4minutes and 24seconds! Went through what you completed on the application e.g. Would you like to work full time/part time/very part time, are you available to work March - May or April - May comfortable working alone/ at night
    2 questions
tell me about how you worked in a team
tell me about when you worked with the public
In fact the questions where so basic and general that it threw me abit and I dont think I did very well! Did think it would be a little more in depth but hey ho!
    No need to get nervous
  • I have also got a tel interview this week so any advice from those who had theirs would be appreciated.
For info, I had my intw for a coordinator position and it was tougher than I expected.....8 questions yes or no... easy enough but then a series of precise questions where you had to give specific examples and explain why/how etc.....Don't think i did very well at all...sadly...then again, I'm not very good at intws...
  • Just had the interview for the Census Coordinator job (well, that was until I lost the will to live half way through the questions and decided to tell the lady I was about to hang up).
The job itself seems very easy but the questions were so David Brent that I figured I would not last the course having to deal with people like that.
Someone else deserved it more than me.......
  • I had my tel interview last fri nite and it was very basic just like an earlier post on this thread said. It threw me a bit when they said i couldnt ask any questions because anything i needed to know was on their website. So basically for the first few questions you are just saying yes or no.
Think i did ok with the questions about team work and working with the public and the interviewer was helping me a little bit aswell.
They said i would find out in 2-3 weeks so heres hoping
  • My telephone interview was 20th November and haven't heard anything yet
  • I had an email a week after my telephone inteview for co-ordinator - it said
""Unfortunately, your application has not been successful at this stage. We do however believe that your application held considerable merit. We anticipate that it is likely that further vacancies will be available in the near future and with your permission would like to keep your application in reserve should a position become available- for example if another candidate withdraws. Please e-mail censusjobs@capita.co.uk if you do not want us to retain your details in this way.
To enable us to be able to process your application quickly in the event that a role becomes available, it would be appreciated if you could take the time to complete the online training for the role. You will be able to complete the online training (e-learning) via the www.censusjobs.co.uk website. We will send you further details of how to complete e-learning in a separate e-mail.
May we also request that you send photocopies of the following ID documentation and a passport sized photograph; so that we may begin your pre-employment checks as quickly as possible should a position become available.""
I thought it was a bit of a cheek - but I have sent off the info. I haven't done the training - they only pay you for it if they offer you a job...and as it is just 3 hours on line training I figured I could fit it in if necessary. I think they are taking the Michael to be honest!
  • I had a similar response, that's another 3 hrs on top of the earlier tests, personally I considered it exploitative and unprofessional, shame on the government department (ONS) concerned.
I am obviously wrong but I thought that as they are asking you to do the training we would be entitled to minimum wage.
  • Just an update - telephone interview 6th December, recieved email today offering me the job subject to references and training etc. Hope the rest of you did ok?
  • Yes, I got an email today telling me I'd been successful too. Happy about that. I had my interview 25/11 and was only asked two questions so maybe I got off easy :S
  • Hey people,
Anyone have a telephone number for Capita or some sort of head office? I stupidly input my password incorrectly and my account is frozen!
Cheers in advance for the help!
  • has anyone heard anything from any of the other jobs like the census call centre in manchester? thanks
  • I have just filled in the online 3 SiftAbility tests
"As part of the application process you are now required to:
    - Complete a series of three online scenario-based assessments, known as SiftAbility"
    How did peeps get on?
    I think I did ok
