A question about : Cashback Barclaycards!!!

Anyone seen the new barclaycards? They actually look quite good and existing customers can transfer!!

Best answers:

  • 2% on your biggest 5 purchases every month (as long as over 15 transactions)
    0.5% on everything else
6% on your biggest 5 purchases in first 3 months (max Ј120)
4% on your biggest 5 purchases on your anniversary month
    Ј24 annual fee
Sounds like my old pay packet, overly complex so that you never know if you've been paid right or not.
Depending on your spending patterns it may or may not work out better than the Amex 1.25% or the Capital One 0.5% but tiered up to 1.25%
  • It will work out well for me though. My barclaycard is my oldest credit account and I don't wanna close it but you couldn't change card without closing and reapplying before. This way I can make use of my previously redundant card and get cashback and all this possibly without another credit check.
  • Also note the rebranded Barclaycard Freedom now available on the Freedom Rewards card which in my personal opinion was and will still be a bit naff.
  • Yeah I did say possibly. They may still credit check but I bank with them too and they keep giving me 0% offers so I don't see it being a problem. Is it wrong to be quite excited about this?!
  • Quick update. If you swap an existing card you will not be credit checked (don't know about adding another to your account as I didn't do this). Beware the interest free period is reduced but to be fair Barclaycard are quite upfront about this in the application.
  • Hi everyone!
We're really happy to hear that you're excited about our new reward cards, Barclaycard Cashback & Barclaycard Freedom Rewards.
If you've got any questions or would like to know more just let us know!
    Thanks, Richard.
  • Is the first statement period always about a month and never just a few days or some other random period?
I'd like to make sure I apply at the right time so that in future years my annual travel ticket renews in the anniversary month.
  • If you live/work in London, one way to achieve your 15 spends a month if you are short, is to top up your oyster at a rail station (you can do choose any amount between 5p and Ј50)
  • na.. ill keep my 7.9% platinum card.. should i ever need to make a large purchase i can pay off over a few months at a low rate, doign that on the cash bard card would be costly.
  • Thanks for the heads up on this. I've been on the look out for a good money back card, and as an existing Barclaycard holder (i.e. I can just transfer my existing account without a credit check), this is very good indeed for me, especially as I tend to use my cards to pay for one or two flights and one or two hotel stays per month for work, which will be my largest purchases each month and attract 2%.
Can I ask Barclaycard Company Representative a quick question please - do the 15 transactions have be in Sterling / in the UK, or are all spends eligible?

Your credit limit will remain the same. The interest rate on your account may change if the APR you have currently is lower than that of the new products. Although we cannot guarantee that you can be transferred, we only perform a small amount of internal checks for transferring your account to another product so it is likely that this will be possible.

If you've requested to transfer your account to one our new reward cards then you will be receiving a letter or email from us soon. Normally, it will take up to 45 days to transfer to a new product as we make the changes on the day your next bill is produced.

Your first statement month will be the same length as all other months. Your first statement is produced no earlier than 25 days after your application is approved. If you're account is being transferred then this will happen on your statement date so you will have a whole month to use the initial cashback bonus on your top 5 transactions.

Thank you for your comments about our new card. We can confirm that only purchases made in Sterling will accrue cashback. Non Sterling transactions are treated as cash purchases on all of our cards.
We hope that we've been able to answer all of your questions, if you'd like to discuss any of them further, please let us know.
    Thanks, Richard.
  • On the freedom rewards card will we earn points abroad? Also will my two additional card holders cards automatically be changed over as well and are we eligible for the Ј30 voucher thing for spending Ј500 as existing customers?
