A question about : carer and student visa

My sisters are looking for someone to hwlp with Mum's care in exchange for accomodation and a Ј30.00 per day for cooking her meals However the lady who has applied is on a student visa from phillipines and it runs out in June. She has been here 3 years and worked for 2 years in a care home and the last year as a student. Is it easy to sponsor her to stay??

Best answers:

  • How are they going to do payroll and make sure they meet legal obligations regarding insurance, paye, minimum wage etc?
  • Theres companies that arrange an AuPair which is probably more what your looking for.
  • If she's on a student visa should she have been working for the first 2 years? Has she breached the terms of her visa?
  • It's not easy, no.
There's some information here. I'm not sure it's even possible for employers to sponsor carers or cooks.
  • Why don't you employ someone from the uk then you don't have visa worries. Plus remeber to get a Dbs check if you can. Someone people prohs would try to gain employment even with past record of issues during care work.
  • Could you not get a a local care company to help with care needs, you just need to pay them the fees and they do the rest. A lot easier but may mean a non regular care worker.
  • If she is getting free care and it's enough care for her why are they looking for another carer
  • It sounds possible that this student has already over stepped the boundaries of her student visa and any employer could find themselves in trouble by employing her.
  • If your mother is happy with the care already provided and understandably doesn't want a stranger moving in then they need to butt out......If your mother is strong enough and of sound mind get her to speak/tell them she shouldn't be forced into anything she doesn't want and it sounds like its for their benefit more than your mums. You seem worn down with it so just you and your mum leave them two to flap over it.

Something similar to this might help. I'm a support worker and I think most are flexible with hours depending on the needs of the service users
