A question about : Car Insurance for Business Use
Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong forum, please move it if so.
I'm self-employed and pay for business insurance on my car. I use the car for both business and personal mileage. My question is; is it in any way a valid business expense, and if so, how much of it is? The business use also covers personal use of the vehicle.
Best answers:
- I would say that the % you use it for business is a valid expense, but it may depend what basis you're claiming for car use on. I think if you're claiming so many pence per mile, that's meant to cover all the costs, including insurance.
- As above, the mileage allowance covers all motoring costs.
- Thank you all for the help.
Although I have an older car, my business mileage is well under 10,000 a year, so I'm going to go with the 45p per mile. I also find that easier to calculate as I can just set the trip mileage meter and take a reading at the end of the trip, in a notebook.
