A question about : Car Hire

I saw an advert in the Guardian/Observer over the weekend advertising the following company:

rentmac . co . uk

They have a number of xmas deals including a Golf GTI for a week for Ј145 delivered and collected to/from your door.

I'm awaiting an email with confirmation details but they asked that payment should be made via direct bank transfer rather than by the usual methods - which seems a bit odd.

Has anyone else used this company - if so please do let me know.

Also, if this turn out to be a scam of some sort - do you have any ideas for reliable car rentals over xmas - at short notice?!

• Saw the ad as well no small print, I'd avoid.
  Where do you want to pick the car up?
• It advertised in The Independent as well, far too good to be true, the company was only registered at Companies House in October I think. I cannot see a new company which has been trading for a few weeks actually having any cars at all, if I remember rightly they offer to deliver free of charge, so no offices at all???? Never pay for car hire with anything other than a credit card.... money going into a bank is lost if the car doesn't materialise. As regards cheap car rental, I booked through Budget for collection tomorrow at Manchester Airport and it was less than 50% of the cost of any of the other majors, now of course my flight has been cancelled, and because I pre paid, they charge 50% cancellation and Ј20 admin so its hardly worth cancelling at all
• The car is provisionally booked to be delivered and collected to/from my address (North London), for free.
  I think I'll pass on this for now as appear to have found a car via carhire3000.com.

• Their address is a Regus serviced office centre. Doesn't suggest much permanence.
• It's a scam. Don't bother; just wasted Ј320
• We have booked a car from rentmeanycar for delivery tomorrow, and we paid 332 pounds up front. We now can't get through to anyone on the phone to check that it has been received and to confirm the car hire. I have phoned the police to report suspected fraud and they can't do anything until the car doesn't turn up tomorrow.
  If you have already been scammed then please report it to the police immediately so that they can stop their bank account. We have the bank account details if needed, and a police phone call reference number. I phoned the Metropolitan police.
• Unfortunately we have paid Ј1000 by BACS as the deposit for a Range Rover Sport due tomorrow (23/12) - seems very unlikely now after finally finding a few threads like these around the Internet.
  Will report it to the police in the morning (it is due at 9am)

• is this really a scam? I'm expecting a car to be delivered tomorrow and have paid GBP650 by transfer....now can't contact anyone....feel so stupid!

• I'll have to look into this, see if the Owner of this company is called Peter Benstean by any chance ?? (the guy who took my holiday money at CCE and then shutdown in October losing peoples 16m!!!!)
  That was done by bank transfer, so looks a copycat!
• Is there any good news story on this? I am also waiting for a car to be delivered this afternoon, but beginning to believe it won't...
