A question about : Capquest.......

Hi all

just as I think I'm getting sorted something else crops up.

My wife bought a Hoover for Ј40 from Very back in march. We then moved house a week or so later and this got forgotten about, it was a new very account at the time and plan was to pay off in full on recipt of bill needless to say thus didn't happen

fast forward to this week and Wife gets a missed call on her phone from Capquest. With her now jogged memory she remembers she never paid for the Hoover. She called Very to apologise and offer to pay in full, to find that a balance of Ј180 has been SOLD to Capquest, does that seem fair in charges and interest?

We've not phoned Capquest or answered their calls and not received anything through the post. We obviously want to get this sorted but unsure of the way forward.

Best answers:

  • Ask Capquest for a breakdown of the bill, including charges and interest. You are looking at a minimum of Ј12 per month in missed payment fees, probably fees for letters that went to your old address, and interest on top.
You can ask them to remove some of them (if they have added their own fees), but they don't have to do it. If you offer a full settlement for a proportion of the debt, and they agree to mark it fully settled, then you might have a chance at reducing it.
Unfortunately, you may end up paying all of it.
  • Good advice from BargainBetty.
The only note I would add is that marking your credit file as fully settled if you pay a partial amount is not a legally accurate record of the status of the account. As such, most creditors will no longer accept this as part of a F&F settlement offer.
By all means make a reduced offer, but please do not insist that they mark your file fully settled as they may refuse it on that basis.
Some good info here on the process for a F&F settlement offer.
