A question about : Can a charity get free postage?

Hello,

is there a way for a charity to post letters without having to pay for stamps? Sorry if its a daft question, but Ive been wondering this for awhile now. I always get crisis appeal letters in the post and wonder if charities get help paying for postage?

Best answers:

  • Not as far as I know. There are bulk volume discounts and they may not be using Royal Mail.
There used to be an exception for 'articles for the blind', but I'm sure that wouldn't cover general mailings.
  • No. There are various discounts - the crisis appeal letters may not be personalised, in which case they are senders will be paying a bulk rate to have one added to each house in a specific area, rather than them being addressed to a specific house, so it will be cheaper than putting a stamp on each one, but it is not free.
