A question about : Buildings and Contents Insurance for Vacant Houses

It's simple - I am trying to find a provider of new for old full cover insurance for my home & contents while I live overseas. Please let me know if you know of anyone who will do it for full years at a time. it's getting more urgent by the day!

Many thanks

Jason

  • I am looking for something similar except I want to do it for part year.
I've used a company called Europea previously but they were taken over by Primary Direct and they gave poor service and a high premium.
Other insurers require a weekly check by next door neighbours for up to 60 days away but we are looking for something longer than this.
Intend trying my bank as they also managed to obtain a policy for us previously under Norwich Union IIRC but we never went to Norwich union directly.
  • Just seen Adam Lee's post down below and phoned Chase Templeton at 08005837288.
They insure up to Ј300k for house insurance and Ј40k for contents.
And the house can be empty as long as you shut off water, gas and electricity.
  • With those cover levels - That sounds like the paymentshield "bedroom rated standard scheme policy
    Freefirst/ BestQuote
( I also note that they promote it on their site)
As some of you may know I am a insurance broker , and have had a lot of dealings with Paymentshield
(even placed mine and other MSE users with them)- good policy.
HOWEVER !if it is then be careful
draining down t might get around the Escape of water exclusion, but please check carefully as the policy ( as does most standard schemes) does have lots of exclusions and standard terms would not then usually
cover !for theft or vandalism if let empty.
They may have had a underwriter approve it as a non standard case , !but please ensure if this is the case and is clearly stated on any schedules you receive, as the policy booklet certainly excludes them
Sorry to worry you - if I am wrong - but best to be certain.
