A question about : BT terms and conditions

This evening I have spent an hour on the phone with BT as I feel they are charging me incorrectly for my early termination. I have found their terms and conditions and calculated what I should pay according to them. I was told that because my contract started 3 months before these terms and conditions were updated that they do not apply to me. I argued that they do as I began the termination process after these terms and conditions were updated. I asked them to tell me what the charges were that they were using to calculate my final bill and for these terms and conditions and they told me that they were unavailable. Surely I should be provided with the terms and conditions that I am being held to. If anyone can shed further light on this I would be eternally grateful title=Smile

Best answers:

  • What is your package and when did you take it out?
  • Did they send you any emails/letters to advise about changes to T&Cs? If yes then the new T&Cs do apply to you; if no then they don't, and the T&Cs in force when you took out the contract are what apply.
(IMHO, the new T&Cs almost certainly do apply, provided they didn't change less than 30 days ago).
  • BT regularly send out little leaflets with changes to T&Cs - generally I just bin them as do I suspect most people.
OP - what is the difference in termination charge that you say you must pay and they do? Is it enough to go into battle over?
  • BT ave form for slapping hidden charges if you leave. I as with them for around 2 years and was not happy with their service. Any service faults and they would take days and weeks to resolve. So I sent notice to cancel and joined Virgin. I paid my final bill after which they sent me a demand for Ј30 for broadband disconnection charge. I was not aware of any such charge nor could I find it in the original contract. I refused and they started threatening with court action etc. This went on for a few months and in the end I just paid the Ј30 because I was going away and did'nt want to leave unfinished business behind.
But suffice to say BT have lost a customer for life. NEVER will I join BT again.
[btw Virgin are no saints either but if there is a fault, they usually fix it within 24hrs].
