A question about : BT cut my line

Hi all.

BT recently replaced the telephone pole outside our home. The engineer had warned us that the work would take place and would result in a loss of service.

We thanked him for the heads up and told him that we were with Virgin.

Before the pole was replaced we had a (disused) BT line running form the pole to our home. Now we have no BT line.

If we decide to switch from Virgin to BT, will we now have to pay Ј130 for them to reinstate the line that they removed?

Best answers:

  • Without a working bt line you would always have paid the Ј130 , will just cost them more money now to do the work
  • With a functional line there is/was no charge. Connection may also be free with certain packages even if work is needed.

  • Many years ago when i went from BT to Nynex they got the hump and removed the line, which seemed to me to be 'cutting their nose off to spite their face' as it meant i would never go back to BT.
Fast forward 25 years and i was looking to leave Virgin and looked around for other deals. I entered my phone and house numbers in the BT broadband checker. Two days later i got an unsolicited sales call from BT offering me a phone line and 38MB BB for about Ј27. When i mentioned what BT had done all those years ago the CS assistant said it would all be a free install.
Whether it would all have actually been free i don't know as i cancelled my PL and TV with VM and just stuck with the 50mb BB for a cracking Ј19.50.
I certainly wouldn't pay Ј130 to be reconnected.
