A question about : broadband&free local/nat calls bundle Ј24.99

For Ј24.99 a month Homecall is offering residential customers free local and national telephone calls as well as broadband internet access. The service will be available through Mr Caudwell's Phones 4 U high street stores and has no monthly limits on downloads ;D

  • This seems a 'too good to be true' offer. What's the catch? Anyone signed up to this and can share the experience?
  • hi

  • Thanks for that Seaniboy
I will definatley be taking a good look at this offer as i was going to go to onetel and the Ј29.99 a month offer.
not a bad saving on their plan ;D
  • Why would anyone want to pay for a monthly phone package when using TalkTalk for the next 12 months and 18866 gives you nearly the same thing, the only thing you would pay for would be your daytime calls at 1p per call, therefore I think you should only be looking at the cost of Broadband.
  • I'm sorry if i sound thick. !:-[
but i've just checked out this 18866 thing you are talking about. and yes it does say on the main menu 1p connection fee, but then when i scrolled down the charges list for various countries it says calls to a uk (fixed line) 0.5p per minute, can you explain this to me
    thanks in advance !;D
    Debs
also i'm sorry for changing the subject :-[
  • Don`t know where you are looking but I have just checked, and UK fixed landlines are 0p per min
Unless you are on cable, then it is 0.5p per min via the 0800 number
  • Thankyou for such a rapid response Derrick, and you are quiet right , see i am thick :-[ , i had clicked onto the frequently asked questions and answers link and then on the (i thought my calls were free and i am being charged 0.5p.........) link and it was through that, that i came across the pricing, i did not realise that it was refering to non bt customers. :-X Thanks for clearing it up though much appreciated ;D
  • The 'local/national' calls aspect of the so-called 'bundle' is meaningless too because, for most residential customers, BT has moved the goalposts and enforced a change to Option 1 - which means there are no local or national calls any more - just UK 01 and 02 calls - for which they charge 3p/minute during the day and a flat rate 5Ѕp evenings and weekends (and, of course, there are FAR cheaper ways of making those calls anyway).
  • I emailed Tesco about the Phones4u broadband/phone bundle offer and they said they planned to bundle 'in the new year' which may include Tesco clubcard points.
I don't know anything about TalkTalk or 1886, so I'll look into these before I leap into any broadband/phone bundles. Then I'm just looking for cheap broadband again!
  • I have just cancelled my Homecall phone contract. If you ring any competition lines (like 0906) or any 0845, 0844 or 0870 numbers you get charged a MASSIVE amount. I rang a competition line - BT rate quoted as Ј1.50 per minute (for 7 mins) and got a charged a mega Ј18.01 + VAT. I was promised my bills would be 1/3 of the cost with Homecall - but over 3 months - the bill for Homecall has been higher than BT. I am not impressed. When I rang to query the Ј18.01 charge - I was laughed at (literally) - I am NOT impressed. !:-[ !PS - I won a DVD!!
