A question about : British Airways & Virgin Atlanic worldwide sales

OFFICIAL/ What's this about?

Both British Airways* and Virgin Atlantic* are running seat sales from London Heathrow, with return flights to New York from Ј299, Dubai Ј319, Mumbai Ј319 and more, including most taxes & charges.

Many prices are identical with both airlines, but while they're reasonable for BA and Virgin (and upgrades to Premium economy especially), they're often easy be undercut; for example, the cheapest we found to NYC was Ј241 and Dubai was Ј244.

/ Don't search 'em direct...

The dates you can travel vary according to destination and most end March 2010, with exclusions for Xmas.
Got a specific date & location in mind?

If you're looking to go away to a certain destination on specific dates don't bother looking at the sales direct, as the results are included in the cheap flight screenscrapers Kayak* and Travelsupermarket*.

So use those and it'll show you the sales costs and also the cheapest general cost so you can see if its worth it. See Cheap Flights guide for more info.
Just browsing for a bargain?

In this case it's worth looking at the specific sales details yourself for available dates and destinations, and seeing if it's worth planning your getaway around them. Check out the full lists of flights and dates at BA & Virgin Atlantic. Then compare then to the best of the screenscrapers above.
Remember for safety if booking, pay on a credit card to get extra protection, see the Section 75 guide for full info.

Best answers:

  • BA have kicked off the season with their sale https://www.britishairways.com/travel...e/public/en_gb
Perhaps we can add links to this thread as other airlines' sales start.
  • There's some on Virgin too https://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb...tereconomy.jsp
  • Who is best to fly with VA or BA?
    Prices are the same
Also who has the better premium upgrade?
    Im flying to vegas
  • I view Virgin's offering is more along the lines of a "Business Class Lite" whereas BA offer a better than economy service. I would always choose the best flight times, but with that discounted it'd be Virgin.
  • Hi
Am looking at booking flights from London to New York for end of May 2010 First week in June 2010
The sale flight costs are Ј879 for 2 adults and 1 child.
Is this the best I will get? Is there any other BA promo codes that could be used?
Also - is it worth booking hotel and flight together or getting an apartment (radio city?)
    Thanks

  • Hi,
is this the Bank Holiiday sale that people go on about? looking to get away to Orlando in Nov and i was wondering if this would be the cheapest time to book - going with Virgin from Mcr.
  • Thanks for posting the link. I've managed to get a very nice deal with BA to Newark, flying PE next April.
We were going anyway and have been able to go PE for not much more than economy. I know the changes from economy aren't drastic but there's a little more leg room - which, with a 6' 4" tall husband, is welcome so we don't have to stress about getting exit seats.
  • I;m a BA man.. Fly BA twice a year, went with Virgin once to St Lucia.. Had a gatwick plane on way out (awefully bad!) and a Heathrow one (to gatwick!) on teh way back.. Supposedly one o ftheir "done up" ones they boasted... I would never fly with them again.
talking Economy only.. never bother upgrading.
  • Going to Boston next week and AA are substantially cheaper than either BA or VA.
I normally travel BA but for this trip the difference was just too great (187 sterling) to ignore.
  • I don't know how to go about this so I'm hoping someone can help...
My ambition is to go to times square for a special birthday on New Years Eve, however when I check out the flights for just after Christmas and say a few days into the new year the prices are horrendous, it would be for 2 adults and a 15 year old so 3 adults really.
Who is best to fly with and when should I book, it's not for this year but I just wanted to do some groundwork and see how much I need to save up!
I have never been to the USA before either so it would all be very new to me...
  • Last Thursday we got wind of some sales that were imminent so I swiftly moved into BA and Virgin to compare and contrast.
I don't know why, but I was able to purchase 4 return tickets (14/11 - 22/11) for Ј420 each. That knocks almost Ј140 off of both the current, and existing prices.
These always fluctuate, its best to check everyday.
