A question about : BR Abbreviations

Thought we should start a new BR Abbreviations List, so we can all add to it. title=Have

AIB - Accountant in Bankruptcy
AO - Administration Order
AD - Automatic Discharge
Annulment - Cancellation
AE - Alter Ego, is generally someone who's previously been PPR'd and has joined under a new username to cause dispute.
Assets - Anything that belongs to you that may be used to pay your debts.
AFAIK - As Far As I Know
AFAIR - As far As I Recall
AFAIAC - As far as I am concerned

BR - Bankrupt/Bankruptcy
BI - Beneficial Interest
BO - Bankruptcy Order
BIS - Business, Innovation and Skills (Department of)
BRO - Bankruptcy Restriction Order
BRU - Bankruptcy Restriction Undertaking
BTW - By The Way
BRB - Be Right Back
Bankruptcy petition - A request made (by you as the debtor or by a creditor) to the court for you to be made bankrupt and giving the reasons why.

CAB - Citizens Advice Bureau
CAS - Citizens Advice Scotland
CC - Credit Card
CCF - Court Claim Form
CCJ - County Court Judgement
CCS - County Court Summons
CRA - Credit Reference Agency
CRF - Credit Reference File
CRB - Criminal Records Bureau (UK)

Creditor - Someone to whom you owe money
CO - Charging order, An order made by the court which gives the trustee a legal charge on your interest in your home. This continues even after you are discharged from bankruptcy.
Clarke Willmott - are the OR's solicitors who collect tax money and IPA payments etc (used to be Moonbeaver)

Debts - Money you owe.
DAS - Debt Arrangement Scheme
DCA - Debt Collecting Agency
DD - Direct Debit
DMP - Debt Management Plan
DRO - Debt Relief Order
DH - Dear Husband
DD/DS - Dear Daughter/Son
DW - Dear Wife
Discharge - Freed from bankruptcy

ED - Early Discharge
EX160 - Application for a fee exemption or remission of court
Estate - Your assets or property which your trustee can deal with to pay your creditors.

F&F - Full and Final Settlement
Form 6.27 - Debtors Petition for bankruptcy
Form 6.28 - Statement of Affairs (Debtors Petition)
F2F - Face To Face (OR interview)

Interest - A right to, or share in, a property.
Insolvent - Unable to pay debts owed
ICO - Information Commissioners Office, you send your disputes to them if your creditors won't change your credit file information (See Fermi's Credit Reference File Clean Up Post Bankruptcy Sticky).
IP - Insolvency Practitioner, An authorised person who specialises in insolvency, usually an accountant or solicitor. They are authorised either by the Secretary of State or by one of a number of recognised professional bodies. * Please do see a free debt charity, try these first as they don't charge and are impartial *

Legal charge - A form of security (e.g. a mortgage) to ensure payment of a debt.

LOL - Laughing out Loud

Moonbeaver - Moonbeever WAS the ORs solicitors who collected tax money and IPA payments etc, before them is WAS Clarke Willmott.
My bad - is an American idiom that was made popular by basketball players in playground games in the 1970s and 1980s. It usually means my fault, my mistake, I apologise or mea culpa.

NDL - National Debt Line
NT - Nil Tax
NTC - Nil Tax Coding
NRM - Northern Rock (Asset Management)
NICO - National Insurance Contribution Office
NTB2 - NTB2 - when you go BR you signed two copies of the form NTB2 the purpose of which is to ensure that you are aware of a number of duties and responsibilities required. You are agreeing to inform the OR within 21 days of any change in income/expenditure. The form also points out the bankruptcy restrictions which must be observed until discharge.

OR - Official Receiver, when we say OR on this board we often don't mean the actual Official Receiver but we mean the Office of the OR or the staff member representing
the OR (it is often an Examiner (EXR) or Case Clerk (CCl).

PIQB - Bankruptcy Preliminary Information Questionnaire
Preferential creditor - A creditor in bankruptcy proceedings who is entitled to receive certain payments in priority to other unsecured creditors. These creditors include occupational pension schemes and employees.
Proxy - Instead of attending a meeting, a person can appoint someone to go and vote in their place - a 'proxy'.
Public examination - The court may order that a bankrupt be questioned in open court about his or her affairs, dealings and property.

RTLU - Regional Trustee/Liquidator Unit
RO - Repossession Order

SOA - Statement of Affairs, We often mean Form 6.28 - Statement of Affairs (Debtors Petition)
SOA - We often ask you to post your SOA, MSE SOA Calculator - Click here Select the MSE format at the end. Copy and paste onto your thread.
SD - Statutory Demand
Solvent - Able to pay one's debts
SOD - Suspension of Discharge

TNIDIS - Tax and National Insurance Disclosure authority form, when you went BR you would have signed a TNIDIS form, which states any tax rebates go to the OR
Trustee - The trustee in bankruptcy is either the official receiver or an insolvency practitioner who takes control of your assets. The trustee's main duties are to sell these assets and share the money out among the creditors.
Troll - A person who posts intentionally controversial posts to cause fights and arguments between posters

Unsecured creditor - A creditor who does not hold security (such as a mortgage) for money owed. Some unsecured creditors may also be preferential creditors.

  • Just wondering if there is a DW (Dear Wife) or HID (Her In Doors)?
  • Just though you might want to add to the description of OR that often we dont mean the actual Official Receiver but mean the Office of the OR of the staff member representing the OR (often an examiner EXR? or case clerk CCl?)
  • i was thinking examiner EXR and case clerk CCl, but probably better just to stick to OR as to not confuse people
