A question about : Boiler and Hot Water Cylinder Replacement

I've been give a quote for the following job and would like some opinions.

The job is to replace our conventional heat only boiler with a new condensing one while at the same time replacing the useless FORTIC how water cylinder with a mains pressure unvented one.

Breakdown as follows:

Supply & fit a Worcester 24kw system condensing boiler in existing position
210ltr high pressure domestic hot water cylinder in existing position
22mm zone valve to control central heating
22mm zone valve to control domestic hot water
Honeywell wiring centre
Wireless room stat/ time clock
Alter pipe work to suite new boiler & cylinder
Strip out existing boiler & domestic hot water cylinder
central heating filter
Add inhibitor on completion of job

Ј3800.00

This seems a touch high to me and I was expecting the price to be more towards the Ј3000 mark. Thoughts?

Best answers:

  • Anyone???????
  • Have you obtained any other quotes?
  • I'm certainly trying. Getting tradesmen to even quote round here is nearly impossible since they all seem to be "flat out".
  • I would start with pricing up what the parts cost.. that way you can have an idea what is being charged for labour.
For a heating only boiler, to combi boiler we are looking at a minimum of Ј2400 with a big firm, and Ј1700 with a one-man van person.
  • Just to confirm - we're not getting a combi. It's a straight swap of the current heat only boiler and tank for the more modern equivalent.
  • Still that's a high price to pay, sure getting quotes is a good idea and that's what I did. I'm baffled they've quoted a Worcester Bosch boiler (they are good, but likely the most expensive option). I think I was recommend a Vaillant boiler by stl heating as they are just as good a boiler, but cost less - which is good.
I mean if I had the choice of a mondeo or a maseratti - I'd go for the mondeo because it's still a car, only it's cheaper but still a decent car !
  • Oh look how many threads plugging *** heating can you post in 5 minutes ray
You must be a very satisfied customer you're promoting them all across the internet.
    Or maybe it's SPAM
  • Why do you want the hot water tank? This will add considerably to the cost and is not necessary with a combi. When we replaced ours we scrapped the hot tank and two cold cisterns saving a lot and freeing up space in the loft.
