A question about : blind supermarket

Hi I've just joined the forum and need some advice. I bought some sets of blinds from this company and I didn't realise when measuring the window frame you measured the inside. I measure the outside. Consequently the drop is too long on the louvre blinds I ordered. I've rang the company whom I bought them from and they refuse to exchange or alter them for me. They said if the lengths wrong cos they made a mistake they will but if its cos I've mismeasured them they won't do anything. The woman I spoke to was quite aggressive and just kept repeating the same sentence over and over again. Ie if its your fault we won't do anything........ I've looked online and it says under the consumer contract regulation I have 14 days to refuse goods if I've bought them online? Can anyone advise? I've paid 150 pounds for these blinds and I'm a pensioner so can't afford to buy a full set of new blinds for my windows which is what this company is telling me I have to do. I've never bought blinds before so I didn't know I was supposed to measure the inside of the window frame

Best answers:

  • I'm afraid that the cancellation period of 14 days doesn't apply to personalised items which were made to the customers specifications.
I think that your best bet would be to contact the company again and ask them if they would be willing to alter the blinds if you paid for this.
  • I agree with other people, give the company another call ask them if they could help you by altering the blind and you would pay for their services.
Explain to the person on the phone that you are a pensioner and you are getting a bit distressed by this and you fully acknowledge this is your fault and not theirs.
If nothing else can be done by that company, have a look in your local newspaper for a handy man, there is always someone that can help and they could possibly cut the excess blind off and secure it so it still fits and open/close as they should.
I have altered a few different kinds of blinds and if I can do it anyone can. Ask a family member or a friend to help you,or you could even contact Age Concern as they will know someone who can help.
  • If it's the horizontal ones, then being too long is easier to fix than being too wide. You can either put up with the fact there are a few bunched up at the bottom, or, very carefully, look at the bottom unit and work out (look at youtube) how to take it apart, remove a few slats, then put it together again.
  • It depends. The right to cancel doesn't apply where the goods are personalised, but in the old DSR (not sure about the new CCR) selecting from available options didn't count. So if they had a range of lengths and you selected one, you have the right to cancel. If you told them the length you wanted and they made it to fit, you don't. It seems that their made to measure section requires you to type in the information you need, so that would probably qualify as made to measure for this purpose.
It seems they offer mismeasurement protection, which does cover you for this, and which you have to select as part of the purchase. Did you choose this? https://www.blinds-supermarket.co.uk/...nd-conditions/
Unfortunately, if you didn't take out the mismeasurement protection, it seems like you're unlikely to be able to return them.
  • another company they seems to be blind to the fact DSR was replaced with CCR

  • Sadly I didn't see the instructions on how to measure. As I say I've never ordered blinds so when it said you measure the frame and if you want them recessed you don't need to do anything else they make the deductions for you so I thought that was that. So looks lke I'm stuck with them. They won't take them back or alter them. :-(
  • Hi,
as already said, they should be easy enough to alter, can you give an idea of style.
  • Theyre vertical ones. We were burgled saturday before last. My husband suggested blinds to stop anyone looking into the house. They smashed off our back door and kitchen door with sledgehammers. Our jack russells bitten one of them so the police forensics man said if they're on their database they'll catch them. We only had net curtains up before and the policeman advised getting blinds cos he said he could see straight through our nets. This is why we decided to get some blinds. Yes now I can see where it shows you how to measure and I'm a stupid old woman for not seeing all of this. My only excuse is that I've been unnerved by this burglary so I've not been taking things in like I should have done and the mistakes my own. And a very expensive one at that. :-(
  • If the normal fabric vertical blinds then they are a doddle to alter - I fouled up once and measured to the floor at the patio doors - forget about the carpet that was going down. Unpicked the bottom stitching with a craft knife, re folded and stitched back up.
I also wanted to re do a 2 ft blind. It was cheaper to buy a few 8ft slats and make 2ft ones out of them.
  • No they refused point blank to do anything other than offer me ten per cent discount on ordering new sets. I can't alter them they aren't sewn there's a sort of seal that leaves a pattern on them so if I cut them they'll look wrong.
  • Hi,
if you were to alter them at the top it wouldn't be so obvious, maybe just a wee bit more footery.
  • If you cannot alter them then you can buy just the slats quite reasonably priced on ebay.
