A question about : Best bar in newcastle for couple

We are going to Newcastle in April and are looking to go for a night out on the Friday. We are a young couple in our twenties and are wondering what the best bar/nightclub would be for a couple on a Fri night?

Any ideas? thanks in advance

  • It's nearly 5 years since I lived in Newcastle, but you've had no answers so I'll try to answer as best I can. If you want a fairly busy pub but where you can talk (ie no loud music) ask a taxi to take you to the Quayside, Pitcher and Piano has a great view and lovely atmosphere. If you don't mind being in a complex there is a great cocktail bar called Opera inside The Gate which is a complex of restaurants, cinema, bars, a nightclub, casino etc - you can go to either Monument or Central Station metro station and walk, or again get a taxi, it has live piano weekend nights. If you want a bar to drink you under the table get a taxi to the Bigg Market, any bar is the same, they're all sticky, loud and full of stag dos. Go off the beaten track to Osborne Road and it's a bit trendier in a 'posh' student area, Osbournes is the classic bar there. If you don't mind somewhere quiet but upmarket Barluga is nice, on Grey Street, but it's a little out of the way from most of the pubs - filled with 20s and 30s rather than students as a rule. Pleased to Meet you is very trendy but can be too busy, just round the corner from Barluga actually. As You Like It in Jesmond is fun, relaxed, has a good atmosphere, can be busy if you get there later as it's popular. If you're a vodka fan Revolution is a chain pub, but in an absolutely stunning building and in a street of fairly classy bars some of which are small clubs as well so it's a good area to go to, again you can go to central station and walk along but if you don't know the area just get taxis. World Head Quarters used to be my favourite club but clubs change very quickly, WHQ doesn't advertise, you won't find it on any googled 'best of newcastle' lists - you have to live there to know it. My brother lives in Newcastle and he mostly goes to Digital but I find it far, far, far too big and my phone doesn't work in there so if you lose who you're with, well your only choice is to go home or make new friends! Tiger Tiger has always been very popular and a 'safe' option for a good night, as it has so many rooms and areas you're bound to find one you like. Hope that helps!
  • My favourite bar in Newcastle at the moment is Pleased to Meet You, do a lot of cocktails and specialise in gins. Really cool place that I'd recommend you visit.
Apart from that there has been The Botanist which has opened recently and has rave reviews, never been but have only heard good things.
Later on head towards Collingwood Street, anywhere on the street will be good for couples on a Friday night but namely Madame Koos / House of Smith / Perdu.
    Hope this helps and enjoy!
