A question about : Best 0% card is Harley-Davidson ?

The Harley-Davidson Platinum Credit Card seems to be a good card with 0% for BTs for 9 months with zero fee. It is by Bank of Scotland at www.picture-cards.co.uk

The Ts and Cs state 5.2 We may charge a handling fee of 2% (at least Ј2) for balance transfers and cheques offered at special promotional rates other than a special promotional rate you received when your account was opened. I think that means zero fees for the 0% period. The Ts and Cs for the BoS One card make it clear that a fee will apply.

Also step 1 of the Bank of Scotland One Card application says -
Typical 15.9% APR Variable
0% for 12 months on Balance Transfers
0% for 3 months on Purchases
Balance transfer fee of up to 2%

The Harley-Davidson card does not mention a fee at this point but does have 9 months for both. However I cannot find a phone number for the Harley card on the picture-cards site which is a little worrying. I guess it is internet only.

I will be applying for this or the Co-op card tomorrow night so any feedback by someone who has this would help. I fancy the Co-op card because they say they will match my current credit card limit which is a lot higher than the usual 5 or 6k I usually get.

  • Not seen this but HBOS also do a Halifax one card and from the blurb you've given I think the T&C's are the same. The 0% BT is for 12 months and 3 months 0% purchase.
  • my apologies I didn't read the whole of your post - I thought the HBOS T&C's you posted where the Harley ones.
  • Never heard of this card but good rule is always ask at the time of application, so if they say (god forbid..10% BT fee, JOKE!) you can pull out without wasting a credit check. And if you ask them outright what their max CL is you'll have an idea, but probably expect to get less than that
  • After spending half an hour on the phone the best number to ask about the BoS cards is 0800 3896677. However they had never heard of the Harley-Davidson card, I guess it is very new. I took a tour through most of the cards on the charitycard.co.uk website that BoS also supply and found the following cards also do 0% for 9 months with no apparently no fee -
Macmillan Cancer Relief Platinum Credit Card
    Guide Dogs Platinum Credit Card
    Mencap Platinum Credit Card
    NSPCC Platinum Credit Card
I called the number again and asked about the Macmillan card and they confirmed it is definately zero fee for BTs. Comparing the Ts + Cs with the Harley card seems identical, including the 5.2 section mentioned above.
There are also Professional, Union and Graduate cards with similar offers but they might require things like Union membership so I would avoid them to be safe.
  • Macmillan Cancer Relief Platinum Credit Card
    Guide Dogs Platinum Credit Card
    Mencap Platinum Credit Card
    NSPCC Platinum Credit Card
I don't mind screwing the banks for money but I think I'll stop there, screwing the above for money is a step to far with stoozing if you ask me! my principles get the better of me.
  • Aren't we still milking the CC provider (ie Halifax)? I read that the charity receive money from Halifax for BT and so they gain from stoozing (and for the initial opening of the card)?
  • Applied for the Macmillan card online today and was accepted instantly with a good credit limit, despite already having a Halifax One card and declaring this on the application (wouldn't have been able to BT from it though).
I hope we are still milking the CC provider. It did cross my mind but I'm sure in these situations it's normally the charity that gets a kickback from the CC provider, not the other way round - otherwise I wouldn't have done it.
  • Wonder if the BT counts as first use? Or even as a spend? Would be nice if they get something from my stooze.
  • [QUOTE=gingercordial]Applied for the Macmillan card online today and was accepted instantly with a good credit limit,
Ginger, you were given a credit limit on acceptance, unusual these days, usually get acceptance, and credit limit in the post with the contract to sign.
    A good CLimit - is this cЈ10k ?
  • Harley Davidson Credit Card
I was going to apply Credit card from Inteligent Finance web site, it looked like the same as on Harley Davidson web site , then i contacted their customer service and got phone number for customer services that is 08003896677, which is Halifax card services number but they do have record of ur Harley Davidson application and u can enquire them about ur card that comes under Halifax card services(all Charity cards mentioned above) they did also confirm that they give u instant credit limit indication at the end of application process online.
  • Nice to see that Martin has updated the 'Best Balance Transfers' article to include these cards. The news also made the newsletter. He obiously agrees with me that theses cards are the best for BTs right now.
BTW I got a 7k limit with the Macmillan card, I recently got 6k with Lloyds and 2k with RBS, so it compares well.
  • CAN you BT to a bank account with the Macmillan Cancer relief card? the T&C seems to state that you can't
