Benefits question

A question about : Benefits question

Believe gambling winnings are not taxable. How could, for example, gambling winnings or money gained from following the tips in the gambling loopholes section affect means tested benefits like housing, credits etc.

Thanks - Del

Re: Overpayment info from Tax Credits helpline

A question about : Re: Overpayment info from Tax Credits helpline

I am sure the Inland Revenue are going to have to write off a lot of overpayments as "Official Error" as it simply isn't fair that people with little or no resources should have repayments taken from current benefits when they repeatedly made the effort to notify the Inland Revenue that they thought an overpayment was occuring or they had told them of a relevant change of circumstance ( pay rise) which the IR couldn't be bothered to make adjustments for.

Any info on DWP rules re receipt of small legacy

A question about : Any info on DWP rules re receipt of small legacy

Am currently getting JSA and as am only a couple of years off retirement age not too optimistic of getting another job.

Will shortly be receiving a small legacy which may take me over the savings limit re JSA, housing benefit etc. I desperately need to replace a lot of 'white goods' and this small windfall would enable me to do that.

However would the benefits people deem me to have deprived myself of funds if I did this and if so what action would they take?

mortgage in arrears over 2 years we were not told

A question about : mortgage in arrears over 2 years we were not told

unbelievable in this day and age but true. How can they do this i wonder.
Maybe its because our mortgage interest is paid by the benefits agency and as such our account is now only reviewed every 12 months. therefore the difference needed to meet the monthly payment has not been altered. Previously it was at every interest change, we think the bank decided to change this without notifying us. Therefore our arrears have built up over an astounding 30 months!!!

Any advice, gratefully received!

A question about : Any advice, gratefully received!

I am trying (like mad!) to get a new job. I am currently a teaching assistant in a primary school. I work 30 hours a week for Ј7500! If I didn't get Tax Credits I couldn't survive!
Problem is my daughter is 19 soon, so her tax credits and child benefit will stop, so I need to make up the money.

Going from SSP to Incapacity Benefit

A question about : Going from SSP to Incapacity Benefit

Hiya, Don't know if anybody can give me any advice....

I am currently receiving SSP from my company on a monthly basis, However I know that you can only claim this for 28 weeks maximum.

Am I right in thinking that after this time I have to apply for Incapacity benefit?

What I would really like to know is will this happen automatically or do I have to contact my local benefits office? I've only got just over a week left before this timescale is up and Don't know what else to do.

Housing Beifit

A question about : Housing Beifit

My wife used to live with her parents before we got married. Her father passed away and as a result the bank wanted to reposses the property. She had to take a mortgage out to stop this happeing. So the now her parents property is in my wifes name.

We got married and i took out a mortgage and we moved to the new house around 3 years ago, and her my mother in law lives in my wifes house. My mother in law has a low income around 10,000 punds. Over the last 4 years this has been the situation where we covered payments on both properties.
