A question about : Basic ISA allowance q

Hi
Basic question from a newbie. I have had an Invesco Perpetual S&S ISA for a number of years (I understand these are really multiple ISAs, one per year, ok), and invest monthly. I want to open up a new s&s ISA. I assume that come next financial year, I can open up this new ISA and stop paying into the IP ISA and start paying into the new ISA. The IP ISA seems to be performing ok so I am thinking I will just leave the money there rather than transferring to the new ISA. So I will end up with one new 'active' ISA that I contribute to, and one 'inactive' IP ISA that sits there gathering interest. Is that basic logic correct?
Then at some point in the future I can transfer money out of the IP ISA into whatever I have running at the time, based on performance. If I wanted to resurrect payments into the IP ISA, I would stop any payments to other ISAs and take out a new IP ISA in a new fin year and transfer in from my 'inactive' account? Is that correct?
Thanks and apologies for the basic questions!

Best answers:

  • Yes, that's all correct.
  • If you have invested directly with IP then I'd really recommend you check their charges. I believe they may still be charging the full initial commission of 5% as well as the full annual fee.
Going via a fund supermarket you'd get 5% back on purchases and AMC of 0.75% rather than 1.5% if that's still their cost but definitely worth checking it out.
  • Thanks both. As I read it, the IP charges are 1.02% AMC and they charged 3% every time I traded ie paid in monthly. I am taking my new ISA out with Cavendish. If I moved the IP ISA to them, they would charge 1.02% and 0.05% ongoing charge and 0.2% service charge. Which would make sense if I planned to continue to invest in the iP ISA. But if I am just leaving it then I reckon its cheaper to leave with IP at 1.02% instead of Cavendsih at 1.02 + 0.05 + 0.2. That's my thinking! But I will double check with IP, thanks for the tip.
