A question about : Bargain Bubbly Champagne & Sparkling Wine Deals Note Discussion

Why have you labelled the Lidl Comte de Brismand champagne as the top deal? Because it's the cheapest? Hardly the best recommendation. I'd much rather pay another Ј4 and get the Nicolas Feuillette at Morrison which is an outstandingly good champagne at a ridiculously low price.

  • Hi chookie1
Yes, we're about letting people know the best deals so the champagne deals note's about the cheapest offers available, both for champagne in general, and for specific bottles.
So, for those people that may just be looking for the cheapest bottle of champagne available the Lidl one is in there near the top.
For those people that can afford to spend a bit more on a grand marque then the info about those is in there too.
We leave the quality discussion up to you guys as everyone's taste is different.

  • Fair enough!

Full post at link above - but a quote from it below:
Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Champagne Brut NV (90%, Ј31.91) topped the list in the consumer champion's test* of champagnes, but Sainsbury's Blanc Noirs Champagne Brut NV was only one per cent behind and around half the price at Ј15
"One disappointment was Moлt and Chandon's Brut NV which came 13th out of the 14 champagnes tested (79%). The experts weren't impressed by its "slightly medicinal" aroma or "aggressive acidity"."

PS. The top-rated Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Champagne Brut NV mentioned above is on offer at Sainsburys for Ј26.91 until: 01/01/2010
  • I went into morrisons on monday and saw this offer, bought a few bottles of the moet and Bollinger(xmas pressies) and then came home came on here to see if this offer was being shown on MSE web site,,, nope were you a bit late for putting this on MSE as most of the morrisons stores have sold out!
  • Yes, but it's still disappointing to read the weekly email, (received in my inbox today) get excited about the champers, then find out all the stores within a 20 mile radius are already sold out!
  • I've only ever followed up on on two of your reports before and on both occasions the store was sold-out. So, it was hardly a surprise when I arrived at Morrisons this morning to find their champagne shelves empty. It seems to me that this is just a way for the shops to manipulate MSE and get them to send thousands of customers to their supermarkets. Surely you should be making sure that there is a reasonable stock available before putting offers such as these in your newsletters. Either that or allow some of the smaller shops to rip you off in the same way.
  • this deal will finish this sunday, it was due for two weeks but the stock just inst there. please dont shout at the staff, it aint their fault, there is a restriction on, but some people are so greedy they just come back another day or sometimes later at night to buy more.
  • there are none available in the manchester area :@(
hopefully they will be getting more stock in this week though
  • Just rung my local store and they are getting more stock in tonight, for sale tomorrow... would definitely recommend you ring and see if your store is doing the same.
  • My local Morrisons (Canterbury) only had Lanson in today - but boxes and boxes of it.... don't know if that says anything about Lanson :-)
  • Lanson is Ј14 at Sainsbury's at the moment too
  • IMHO, champagne is far too over-rated; I do like a nice white wine, but for the cost of champagne, I certainly wouldn't be able to do a blind taste-test and tell it apart from other sparkling wines.
So...(apologies if this has already been posted) but Tesco FINALLY have their own brand Cava back on the 3 for Ј10 offer. They did it last christmas too, and to be honest, we just quaffed that all over the festive season last year, and pretended we were proper posh, lol!!!
It's very nice, and now very CHEAP - hope that helps someone!!
    L xx
  • No bolly in my local Morrison's either. Made a journey down there for nothing. Excatly the same thing happened last year.
