A question about : Bank freebies for oldies?

I'm going back to college in Sept so have been scouting around for good student bank accounts. Thing is, I've found that of the ones I've looked at (eg NatWest) their t&c state the freebie's only for students entering HE for the first time.
I guess I could lie, but might they find out I've been to college before?
Hmm... :-/

  • I'm wondering about this too as I need a new railcard when I get back from the states, and both Natwest and HSBC are offering 5 year ones free to new students this year.
I'm hoping if I go into the branch and ask nicely enough they'll give me one anyway. As they're both doing the same offer I'm thinking I could try the "well HSBC said they'd give me a free railcard but I'd honestly rather have a NatWest account, so will you give me one pleeeeeease?" approach. Should work if you can make them believe that you really are going to switch your student account to them (which I'm not... )
  • don't forget that they're "young persons railcards" which are only valid if you're 26 - a fab incentive if you're under 21...but a bit rubbish if you're teetering on the edge of 25-ness like me! :-/
  • Great stuff. Am going for HSBC now for the free money, will then apply to NatWest for their railcard in Oct and decide which of the two to keep open.
Assuming Natwest can't check a mysterious database of all the people who've ever been to University, I think I'll keep shtum.
