Back to the original post...

I've just been told that Axa will after early next year no longer be doing pet insurance, I've called them and they have said that clients will be offered policies with someone else and they will write to us near the renewal time of our policies. Both my dogs are insured with AXA and I've claimed for both of them, Ellie my Bichon cost me approx Ј135 last year this year I had to pay Ј301 title=Mad now I know why.

Best answers:

  • I'm really annoyed by this.
My cat is 14 so I'll struggle to find a decent company to insure her even though I've never made a claim
  • I have Logan with AXA, found them to be the best in that price range. Have never had to claim
  • I phone the ombudsman and they've said they can do this, I thought the banks that tried it last year were told they had to honour life cover for existing customers ( I could be wrong though ).
  • Oh no. I had a feeling they might do this when they made the pet insurance part of the website very minimal and stopped doing a freephone line Fortunately Kiki's medical condition is a fairly cheap one to cover myself if I needed to, and Casper has no claims, so we'll see what happens when their policies run out next year..
  • Oh my god am not happy about this
Bang goes my advice to go with an insurer because they are less likely than a bank to pull out.
First HSBC, now AXA, how long before my next provider pulls out
My cat is 8 and I can't afford for PetPlan to start charging a % of bill within a few years so I guess it'll be Argos Platinum or whoever AXA offer.
Maybe I should switch now while she has no pre-existing conditions because my AXA renewal has just been done so looking at another year.
I did wonder why my premium jumped Ј3pm although I put it down to age. Previously rises have been around Ј1pm.
  • I have literally just renewed with AXA, am I now tied into this for a year? Just thinking if they're not going to exist next year it makes the cover almost useless because if I claim on it I won't be able to get cover that includes the condition I claimed for. I'd rather move to Petplan now.
  • Please can people give me advice. I have two dogs who I have had from a puppy. One is now 3 I have claimed on his axa insurance for previous things but nothing that is pre existing etc. I have another one who turns two next month in his first yr of insurance with axa he wqs diagnosed with severe hip dysplacia in both back legs, elbow dysplacia in both front legs and couple of months ago dodgy wrists. In the future to fix his wrists alone if they need doing are going to cost 7k. How do i fight this I need this lifetime cover?
  • This is going to wreck our lives. they shouldnt be allowed to do this
  • Gutted too
I have recommended them too never thought such a big company like that who underwrite their own policies would pull out it's disgusting.
It really does now look like Petplan is the only safe place to go.
  • Pd off as all 3 of mine are covered by axa
Like others thought they were safer than say a supermarket or retailer as insurance is their business
I hope if they have to continue cover its for everyone not just those with existing policies
Their cover is goosd & they don't charge % of costs when pet gets over a certain age as big cat is so finding other cover is going to be hard & more expensive
  • Ditto that. I couldn't get lifetime cover with Petplan now for Casper even if I wanted to. Argos' platinum seems to be a comparable cover but it's just quoted me Ј140 (vs AXA's current Ј50) for the pair, so a huge jump and that's without declaring Kiki's hypothyroidism.
Going to look back at other policies I got quotes from last year..though I remember no one coming in as cheap as AXA for a comparable product, which is why I stayed with them the year before (before Kiki's condition)
  • NEWS: Just been on the phone to axa and poor lady didn't have any answers. As we was speaking she was handed a memo and has confirmed that any existing policies can be renewed they will stop providing to new customers though. Therefore pre existing conditions will be still covered with AXA.
  • I read about this on facebook last night and I am really ticked off. I also feel a little bit daft after advising people time and again to stick with policies from companies who only deal with insurance and avoid supermarkets, banks etc. That's come back to bite me on the bum!
My policy is up for renewal next month so I will hopefully be hearing from them soon about where I stand. In one sense, I'm fortunate in that my dog has no pre-existing conditions so it should be easy enough for me to change insurers but the reality of that is that my options appear to be quite limited. Most companies are offering me a much inferior policy for about 3-4 times what I'm paying now and whose to say that I won't find myself in the same position next year if they too decide to pull out. Petplan, which would be the safest option (if there is such a thing now!) will only give me a 12 month policy.
    Cheers Axa!
  • cassiehagger that will be a great relief. I've emailed them on their claims email addy ( the only one I had ) just to try and get something down in writing from them, I'm just hoping they've not changed their t&c's that they go through when your on the phone renewing with them, they go through them that quick that it's hard to keep up, on the other hand if they are changing anything then surely they must need to tell you about it in writing. I've two policies with them one not due for renewal until April and the other is July next year. I think until I hear about it in writing I'm going to be panicking ( I panic about everything )
  • If u get it in writing that would be good, would you share it with me if you do? I have relaxed abit still going to be in back of my mind though. My other dog who doesnt have pre existing due for renewal next month
  • Surely that opens the door for them to massively bump existing customers premiums though..I'll wait and see what the renewal is next year!
  • Of course , I've struggled to pay the insurance this year as I'm no longer working and I'm having to rely on my lovely ( don't call him that often ) oh to help me out.
