A question about : Another bathroom quote

I have insurance covering damage to my bathroom, including replacing ceiling, flooring, existing tiling around the bath and re-painting the rest of the walls. I have asked the builder employed by the insurance company to quote me for extra work. This is:
1/ replacing the existing bathroom suite (I have purchased the new suite) - much moving of pipes including a rectangular bath replaced with a corner bath and the shower moving along the wall.
2/ Tiling the rest of the bathroom floor to ceiling (2 m square bathroom).
3/ Replacing the cork tiles with ceramic tiles.

The quote (not including tiles) is approx Ј2000. Does this seem reasonable? When I asked the builder said putting in ceramic tiles was much harder work with more to do than cork tiles. He also said that lino would be closer in installation cost to the cork and will provide me a quote for that (for which I am waiting). Do these seem like valid statements?

All feedback gratefully received. Thanks

Best answers:

  • Are the cork tiles on the floor? Ive never heard of ceramic tiles being used ona florr if so!!
  • It's true that the lino is more similar in cost to the cork, on the other hand some tiles are very cheap and the overall cost can be cheaper! I would say that if there was one hell of alot of moving of pipes (in a 2m bathroom, i can't imagine how that is possible) then maybe the quote could hit Ј900. Ј2000 is a mikey take I'm afraid. Get an itemised quote. Ј300 plus a day seems a bit much don't you think?
Depending on location you can base these trades at Ј120 a day. Max of Ј250 for very skilled in London areas. But remember he is a builder and not a pro bathroom fitter!
  • Thanks for the warning. I shall look for another quote
